Carlow made the go-ahead three-pointer with 28 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter on Friday evening on the way to defeating Lourdes 53-47 at Donahue Pavilion in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Lourdes shot just 36.4% from the floor, including just 2-for-10 from three-point range, and committed 26 turnovers on the evening which led to 23 Celtics points in suffering the team's first loss of the year.

"We played as individuals today," head coach
Karen McConnell said after the game. "It was disappointing we didn't play as a team."

The Gray Wolves jumped on top early, building a 12-4 lead midway through the opening quarter. The Celtics rallied, scoring the next eight points to tie the game before Lourdes eventually took a 16-12 lead at the end of the period.

Carlow limited Lourdes to just five points in the second frame, and used a 7-0 run to start the quarter to take the lead, and maintained a two-point advantage heading into the locker room, 23-21. Lourdes was never able to take the lead in a tight third quarter, but Carlow never led by more than four before taking a 33-30 lead into the final 10 minutes.

Molea Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison H.S.) put Lourdes in front for the first time since early in the second period with a layup at the 8:34 mark of the fourth. The lead would change hands six times in the final quarter, with Lourdes holding its final lead, 39-37, following a three-point play by
Lindsey Motycka (Convoy, Ohio/Crestview H.S.) with 5:13 to play.

The Celtics responded with a triple of their own, and led by as many as three before
Jesse Fidler (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) tied the game with a basket with a minute remaining in regulation. Bria Rathway made a three with 28 seconds remaining, which proved to be the game-winner, as Carlow (1-0) made three free throws down the stretch as well.

Fidler led Lourdes with 12 points while
Andrea Hodge (Westerville, Ohio/Central H.S.) added eight for the Gray Wolves. Michelle Adkins led the Celtics with 13 points while Theresa Fachettie added a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards.

Carlow shot 33.3% from the floor and committed 22 miscues on the night.
