Lourdes Women Fall at Home to First Place Lawrence Tech

Lawrence Tech shot 55.6% from the floor and held a 37-23 rebound advantage on Saturday afternoon as the Blue Devils handed Lourdes a home loss at Tam-o-Shanter 83-60.

The Blue Devils shot 59.3% over the final 20 minutes and used 12 offensive boards on the afternoon to produce 13 second chance points in the victory.  Lawrence Tech also outscored the Gray Wolves 46-22 in the paint.

"Lawrence Tech is a good team," head coach Karen McConnell said afterwards.  "They just keep coming after you.  For us to win we need to keep our opponents in the 50s because we're just not an explosive team."

Lourdes never led in the game, but kept the contest close in the opening quarter.  Trailing 24-19 after the first 10 minutes, the Gray Wolves surrendered a 9-0 run that spanned both quarters to allow Lawrence Tech to increase the lead to 31-19 less than three minutes into the second period.  The Blue Devils would maintain a double figure lead the rest of the way, and held a 45-27 advantage at halftime.

The Blue Devil lead grew to as many as 26 early in the fourth quarter as the guests remained undefeated on the season.

Jesse Fidler (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) led Lourdes with 15 points, making 7-of-9 shots from the floor on the afternoon.  Niki Meyer (Liberty Center, Ohio/Liberty Center H.S.) and Andrea Hodge (Westerville, Ohio/Central H.S.) each added 11 points.

Lourdes shot 41.2% from the floor and went 14-for-19 (73.7%) from the free throw line.  However, the Gray Wolves committed 19 turnovers, leading to 17 Blue Devil points.

"The past two games we have been shooting the ball a little better," McConnell added.  "Our free throw shooting is slowly improving."

Allison Kitchen led Lawrence Tech (7-0, 6-0 WHAC) with 18 points and nine rebounds while Hali Butler added 14 points.  Jazmine Brown tallied 12 points and Christina Henry chipped in 11 points for the Blue Devils.

"We need to show a relentless work ethic and start talking defensively," McConnell concluded.

Lourdes (3-8, 1-5) will step out of conference play on Tuesday evening to host Akron Wayne at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center on the campus of Adrian College.  Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
