Karen McConnell said afterwards. "We came out the second half with a spark and gave ourselves the cushion we needed."

Lourdes led just 24-17 at halftime before holding the Warriors scoreless for the first nine minutes of the third quarter, as
Jesse Fidler (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) and
Lindsey Motycka (Convoy, Ohio/Crestview H.S.) each scored six points in the period. The Gray Wolves held Akron Wayne to just 1-of-10 shooting in the frame while forcing 12 turnovers in 10 minutes.

The Gray Wolves maintained a 24-to-28 point advantage throughout the final period to snap a three-game losing skid.

Lourdes opened the game quickly, scoring the game's first eight points in a four-minute span before taking a 13-7 lead into the second stanza. A 7-0 run by the Warriors pulled Akron Wayne to within one, but they were never able to tie the game or take the lead. A three-pointer by
Mariah DuPree (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Whiteford H.S.) and a lay-in by
Niki Meyer (Liberty Center, Ohio/Liberty Center H.S.) gave Lourdes the seven-point halftime advantage.

Motycka led Lourdes with 13 points and added six steals defensively while Fidler tallied 12 points and four steals. Motycka and Fidler each pulled down eight rebounds, including seven on the offensive end, as the Gray Wolves finished the contest with 26 offensive boards and a 47-38 edge in rebounding for the night.

DuPree chipped in nine points while
Andrea Hodge (Westerville, Ohio/Central H.S.) tallied eight points, four assists, and four steals.

Lourdes shot just 35.2% from the floor on the night, but converted 36 Akron Wayne turnovers into 39 points.

Akron Wayne (0-8) shot 26.1% from the field, but forced 23 Gray Wolf turnovers to keep the game close into the third quarter. Sarah Berry led the Warriors with 11 points and eight rebounds while Taleya Clark tallied 10 points.

Lourdes (4-8) will take to the road on Saturday afternoon, returning to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play to face eighth-ranked Davenport. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at the DU Student Center in Grand Rapids, Mich.
