Lourdes women's basketball team saw its 2014-2015 season come to an end on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves fell 71-45 to the University of Northwestern Ohio at Racer Gymnasium in Lima, Ohio.
The Gray Wolves took an early 8-4 lead as
Jessica Durr (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton H.S.) made her first four shots from the floor. The Racers battled back to tie the game at 13 before a 13-4 run opened the game up, giving Northwestern Ohio a nine-point lead with six minutes to play in the first half. Lourdes went the final seven minutes of the first half without a field goal and the 5:53 without scoring until
Lauren Tilden (Ravenna, Ohio/Ravenna H.S.) made a free throw with two seconds left to make it 30-20 at the half.
Northwestern Ohio scored the first 14 points of the second half in a span of three minutes before
Emily Orsini (Akron, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban H.S.) ended the Gray Wolves' field goal drought at 10 minutes. The Racers maintained a 20 to 25 point lead most of the second half on the way to the victory.
Durr and Tilden led Lourdes with 12 points each in the contest while
Jesse Fidler (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) added 11 points. The Gray Wolves shot just 30.4% from the floor, including 3-for-14 from three-point range.
Sammi Dervisevic led Northwestern Ohio (16-14, 14-8 WHAC) with 15 points while Madison Coldren and Shakeia Salters added 14 points each. The Racers shot 48.3% from the field on the afternoon. The Racers bench outscored Lourdes bench 34-4 on the day.
Lourdes season comes to a close with an 8-22 record overall and a 4-20 mark in WHAC play. The Gray Wolves finished in 10
th place in 12-team league.
The game marked the final collegiate game for seniors Durr, Orsini, Tilden,
Kaitlyn Cramer (Toledo, Ohio/Emmanuel Christian H.S.),
Hailey Schroeder (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville H.S.), and
Tara Yurek (Cleveland, Ohio/Valley Forge H.S.).
