Lourdes tallied 14 runs and 22 hits in its Saturday afternoon doubleheader, but in the end split the twinbill with Cleary.  The Gray Wolves won the opener 8-3 before dropping game two 9-6 in eight innings at Parker Field in Howell, Mich.
 
The Gray Wolves wasted little time jumping on the scoreboard in the opener.  Alyssa Schaub (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) led off with a double and moved to third one batter later on a single by Ashley Yeager (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.).  With one out, an error on the Cougars allowed Schaub to score the game's first run.  After the bases were loaded, a fielder's choice off of the bat of Megan Mosiniak (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) plated Yeager and Hillary West (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) tacked on one more run with a single.
 
After Cleary scored a run in the bottom of the first, Schaub responded with a home run to left-center, giving the Gray Wolves a 4-1 lead.  Jaime Newman (Edgerton, Ohio/Edgerton H.S.) stole third as part of a double steal in the fourth and scored when the throw went into left field before Hayley Roberts (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) added a run-scoring single to plate Schaub, increasing the lead to five runs.
 
Ciara Darkangelo homered with one runner on in the fourth to close out Cleary's scoring in the opener while Lourdes tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the seventh.  Mosiniak led off the inning with a double and scored two batters later on a single by Kayla Encalado (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.).  Encalado later scored on a base hit by Yeager.
 
Sam Merillat (Hudson, Mich./Hudson H.S.) earned the win (2-0) in the circle, allowing four runs and five hits in four innings of work.  Samantha Shirling (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood H.S.) earned her first collegiate save with three scoreless innings of relief out of the bullpen.
 
Schaub reached base all five times she batted in the opener, scoring three times.
 
Lourdes scored the first run in the nightcap as West singled home Roberts in the top of the second inning.  Cleary answered, and took the lead, with four runs in the third, the final three coming on a home run by Ashley Valle.  The Cougars increased their lead to five, 6-1, with two more runs in the fourth.
 
Lourdes mounted a comeback in the fifth.  Yeager had a RBI single to score Newman and Mosiniak plated Schaub with a ground out.  Roberts then launched a two-run blast to pull the Gray Wolves within a run, 6-5. 
 
The Gray Wolves tied the game in the sixth as Encalado singled with one out and stole second.  After a Newman sacrifice bunt, Schaub singled to left-center to plate Encalado, evening the game at six.
 
The game went into extra innings still tied when Lourdes had a chance to go ahead in the top of the inning.  Encalado singled with one out, but Bre Megyesi (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) was gunned down trying to score from second.
 
In the bottom half of the inning, Cleary (3-12) put two runners on via errors before Andi Dragonetti hit a three-run walk-off home run.  Dragonetti finished the game 4-for-5 with four runs batted in while scoring three times and Valle tallied five RBI in the contest for the Cougars.
 
Encalado went 3-for-4 in game two for Lourdes while Roberts finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two runs batted in.
 
Adair Emanuelson went the distance in the circle for Cleary, giving up 12 hits and six runs while striking out six in the winning (3-4) effort.  Shirling suffered the loss (0-1), giving up five unearned runs in 5.0 innings of relief.
 
Lourdes (2-2) will return to the diamond on Monday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Findlay.  First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3:30 p.m. at Pacesetter Park.
