Â
Siena Heights jumped on top quickly in the opener, plating five runs in the top of the first inning. The Saints took advantage of a Lourdes error which led to four unearned runs in the inning.
Â
The Gray Wolves battled back with a pair in the bottom of the frame.Â
Alyssa Schaub (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) led off with a triple and scored two batters later on a
Megan Mosiniak (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) single. Mosiniak later scored in the inning on a double steal.
Â
The Saints added single runs in the second and fourth innings to build a 7-2 lead before Mosiniak drove home two more runs in the fourth inning with a triple to centerfield to pull the Gray Wolves to within three.
Â
After Siena Heights added what would become an insurance run in the fifth, Lourdes cut its deficit in half in the sixth.Â
Bre Megyesi (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) hit a two-out fly ball to right that was dropped, scoring
Ashley Yeager (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) and
Hayley Roberts (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.).
Â
Lourdes was unable to add any more runs though, despite 10 hits in the contest. Mosiniak and Schaub both tallied a pair of safeties for the Gray Wolves in the loss. Megan Jones went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in to pace the Saints in the opener.
Â
Kelsie Abbott earned the complete game victory (11-3) for Siena Heights, allowing four earned runs in the circle.Â
Sam Merillat (Hudson, Mich./Hudson H.S.) suffered the loss (2-1), allowing six runs, only two of which were earned, and seven hits in 1.1 innings of work.
Â
"If we could eliminate the bad inning we're right where we want to be," head coach
Jo Ann Gordon said afterwards. "We got down early but we fought back and showed a great deal of character."
Â
In game two, Lourdes jumped on top in the opening inning. Mosiniak and Roberts recorded back-to-back triples to give the Gray Wolves a 1-0 lead.
Â
Siena Heights answered with two in the bottom of the second before Lourdes retook the lead in the third as a pair of outfield errors by the Saints allowed Yeager and Schaub to score.
Â
With a 3-2 lead,
Brooke Gallaher (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) went to work in the circle, retiring 12 straight hitters after allowing the two runs in the second. The freshman did not allow another hit until there was one out in the sixth.
Â
Lourdes offense added to the lead in the fifth as Mosiniak drove home Schaub with a single and a Roberts' sacrifice fly plated Gallaher to make it 5-2 Gray Wolves.  Lourdes ended the game with the run rule in the sixth, scoring five more times. Gallaher helped her own cause with a run-scoring single and Megyesi also added a RBI hit.Â
Kayla Encalado (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) singled home two runs before
Erica Marvaso (Huron Township, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) ended the game with an infield single.
Â
Mosiniak and Schaub both had two hits in game two as part of another 10-hit attack for the Gray Wolves while Schaub also drew a walk and scored three times.
Â
Gallaher allowed just two runs and five hits in the six-inning victory (1-1), striking out four. Morgan Warfield suffered the loss (1-2) for Siena Heights (13-10, 1-3 WHAC), surrendering all 10 runs, seven of which were earned, on nine hits. She also walked five.
Â
"Game two was a great team win," Gordon added. "We were solid both defensively and at the plate and Brooke pitched a great game."
Â
