Lourdes opened the "home" portion of its 2015 season on Wednesday afternoon, falling 20-6 to fourth-ranked Indiana Tech at The Legacy Center in Brighton, Mich.
Â
"We have a young team that is still growing," head coach
Paul Sieben said after the game. "I think we have some strong potential to rebound from the defeat at the hands of a strong Indiana Tech team."
Â
The Warriors wasted little time jumping on the board, winning the opening draw and scoring just 11 seconds into the contest. Indiana Tech would not surrender the lead, building a 10-1 halftime advantage.Â
Faith Fisher (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) finally put Lourdes on the scoreboard with 5:23 to play before intermission after the Warriors had tallied the first seven goals.
Â
Indiana Tech (1-0, 1-0 WHAC) added the first two goals of the second half before
Jessie Frost (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton H.S.) tallied a goal on a free position shot.Â
Alyssa Long (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn H.S.) followed with a goal just 1:33 later, closing the gap to 12-3 with 25:19 remaining.
Â
The Warriors answered with two goals of their own before Long tallied her second marker of the game, and team-leading eighth of the year.Â
Katie Cerveny (Erie, Mich./Mason Senior H.S.) scored her first goal of the season one minute later and
Mackenzie Moriarty (Roseville, Minn./Roseville H.S.) scored from the free position to cap a three-goal Gray Wolf run.
Â
"I was proud how we battled in the second half," Sieben stated. "We continued to fight and found some goals after falling behind early."
Â
Indiana Tech scored the final five goals of the game to close out the contest. Alexa Winter led the Warriors with six goals while Alexis Digiovanni also had a six-point game with two goals and four assists.
Â
The Warriors outshot Lourdes 38-22 for the game, but both the Gray Wolves'
Kiley Ketteman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson H.S.) and Indiana Tech's Meaghan Eldridge made nine saves in the contest.
Â
Lourdes (0-2, 0-2) will return to action on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host second-ranked Davenport. The game has been moved indoors and will take place at Detroit Country Day School in Beverly, Mich. beginning at 4 p.m.
