Fourth Quarter Pushes No. 7 Dayton Past Lourdes

Lourdes held a one-goal lead over seventh-ranked Dayton heading into the final quarter, but the Flyers scored eight times in the final 15 minutes to defeat the Gray Wolves 18-13 at Central Catholic High School.

"We have yet to put together a full game," head coach Patrick Yannarelli said afterwards.  "At times we look really good, but at other times we are dropping the ball and not playing up to our potential."

The Gray Wolves wasted little time jumping on top in their home opener, scoring four of the game's first five goals in a span of less than six minutes.  Trent Hasenfratz (Maumee, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) found the back of the cage first before Dalton Vowles (Toledo, Ohio/Saint John's H.S.) followed with a goal of his own.  After Dayton pulled to within one, Dylan Gill (Holland, Ohio/Saint Francis H.S.) scored back-to-back goals to put Lourdes on top 4-1 at the 9:20 mark of the first quarter.  Dayton added another tally before Hasenfratz score his second of the quarter to give Lourdes a 5-2 lead after one.

The Flyers took control in the second, scoring eight times, with only a Casey Hilfinger (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) goal breaking up the run midway through to give the guest a 10-6 lead at intermission.

The third quarter was all Lourdes as the Gray Wolves scored five times.  Bichsel started the run while Dalton Vowles (Toledo, Ohio/Saint John's H.S.) followed with back-to-back markers to pull Lourdes within one.  Bichsel's team-leading 23rd goal of the season tied the contest and Jared Yoshino (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.) gave the Gray Wolves an 11-10 lead, which they would take into the fourth.

Dayton scored eight unanswered goals in a 10-minute span to open the fourth quarter, seizing control of the game before Yoshino and Vowles added late tallies for the final margin.

Ryan Green, Cody Topp, and Ryan Cass led Dayton (7-2) with three goals each while Adam Henlein handed out five assists as part of a seven-point game.  Yoshino had three assists to finish the day with five points while Vowles also had five points on the afternoon for Lourdes.

The Flyers outshot Lourdes 55-36 for the game as Joe Hollinger (Maumee, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) made 13 saves for the Gray Wolves.  Andrew Kramer had 11 stops for the Flyers.

Hillfinger and Gill led the Gray Wolves with six ground balls each.

Lourdes (3-5) will take to the road for the final time in the 2015 regular season on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves travel to Oakland.  The opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
