Lourdes bats remained hot on Sunday afternoon as the Gray Wolves tallied 19 runs in two games in sweeping a doubleheader from Indiana tech 12-5 and 7-5 at Havenhurst Park in New Haven, Ind.
Â
A nine-run fourth inning in the opener broke the game open for Lourdes as the Gray Wolves sent 13 batters to the plate in the inning.Â
Hillary West (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) ,
Megan Mosiniak (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) and
Ashley Yeager (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) all delivered two-run singles in the inning while
Hayley Roberts (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) capped the scoring with a two-run home run.
Â
After Indiana Tech scored single runs in the fourth and fifth, Lourdes added three more runs in the top of the seventh. Mosiniak plated one with a hit while drove home two more with a double.
Â
Roberts finished the game 3-for-4, a triple shy of the cycle, while driving home four runs while Mosiniak drove home three and scored three times.
Â
"Megan and Hayley killed the ball in the opener," head coach
Jo Ann Gordon said. "We got some good hitting from the middle of the order."
Â
Brooke Gallaher (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) earned the win (2-4) in the circle, giving up just two unearned runs and four hits in five innings of work. Jamie Kilps suffered the loss (4-6) for Indiana Tech, yielding six runs and six hits.
Â
"Brooke pitched a great five innings," Gordon added. "She was very effective with her pitches."
Â
Roberts put Lourdes on top in the opening inning of game two with a RBI double that plated
Alyssa Schaub (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) but the Warriors responded with three runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead.
Â
Trailing 4-1 heading into the fourth, Lourdes plated six runs in the top of the inning as 11 batters came to the plate. Roberts again delivered a RBI double and the Gray Wolves also took advantage of two Indiana Tech (11-20, 0-10 WHAC) errors in the game.
Â
"Game two was a great team win," Gordon added. "We battled back from behind to earn a much needed sweep."
Â
Lourdes (5-9, 3-3) will return home on Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Michigan-Dearborn. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3:30 p.m. at Pacesetter Park.
