Upcoming in Gray Wolves Softball: A big week lies ahead for Lourdes University softball as the Gray Wolves play six games against Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foes in an attempt to move up the league standings. Lourdes hosts Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday for a midweek twinbill before entertaining Concordia (Mich.) on Saturday. The Gray Wolves travel to Livonia, Mich. on Sunday for a doubleheader at Madonna.
Head Coach Jo Ann Gordon: In her third season on the Lourdes bench,
Jo Ann Gordon has a 30-60 (.333) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In her 13th season overall as a head softball coach, Gordon has a 182-348 (.343) career mark. She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes is 3-1 all-time against Michigan-Dearborn dating back to April 3, 2013, but Wednesday marks the Wolverines' first appearance at Pacesetter Park. Last year the Gray Wolves and Wolverines split a twinbill with Michigan-Dearborn winning the opener 8-4 before Lourdes took the nightcap 13-4. Lourdes is 2-3 against Concordia (Mich.) dating back to April 17, 2013. Last year the two schools split a doubleheader in Ann Arbor, Mich. with Lourdes taking the opener 12-5 and Concordia winning game two 4-3. The Cardinals won the decisive third meeting 10-1 at Pacesetter Park in the WHAC tournament. Madonna is 6-0 against Lourdes all-time dating back to April 14, 2013 after winning three times last season. The Crusaders were 10-2 and 7-0 victors during the regular season before edging the Gray Wolves 3-2 in the WHAC tournament. Madonna is 2-0 versus Lourdes in Livonia, Mich.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes dropped a doubleheader on Saturday at Northwestern Ohio 7-4 and 8-0 as the Racers scored three or more runs in four different innings in the doubleheader. The Gray Wolves rebounded on Sunday for a sweep at Indiana Tech 12-5 and 7-5. Lourdes had a nine-run inning in game one and a six-run frame in game two.
Scouting Michigan-Dearborn: The Wolverines have won two of their last three games after splitting a twinbill against Aquinas on Sunday. Taylor Moceri leads Michigan-Dearborn batting .417 while Makenzie Trowbridge is hitting .378 with four home runs and 24 runs batted in. The Wolverines are hitting .333 on the year while the pitching staff sports a 5.66 earned run average and opponents are batting .279 against them.
Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals enter the week having won two straight following a 5-3 and 2-0 sweep over Aquinas on Saturday. Concordia hosts Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday and Cleary on Friday before visiting Lourdes. Cheyenne Brierley leads Concordia batting .442 with eight RBI at the plate. In the circle, Brierley sports a team-best 3.53 ERA. As a team the Cardinals are batting .280 while the pitching staff sports a 4.60 ERA and opponents are hitting .302 against them.
Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders enter the week having won four of their last five after splitting a doubleheader at #16 Davenport on Sunday. The Crusaders travel to Indiana Tech and host Northwestern Ohio this week prior to entertaining the Gray Wolves. Kasey Trierweiler leads Madonna batting .424 at the plate. In the circle, Erin Combs paces the pitching staff with a 1.43 ERA. As a team Madonna is batting .312 while the hurlers have notched a 1.76 earned run average and a .234 opponents batting average.
Schedule Updates: Lourdes will make up the Cornerstone postponement from March 28 in Grand Rapids, Mich. on April 21 at 3:30 p.m. In addition, the Davenport postponement from March 29 (and April 3) has been rescheduled for Friday, April 24 at 2 p.m. The Aquinas postponement from April 4 is set to be made up on Saturday, April 25 at noon. Thus the Purdue-North Central game has been cancelled.
Big Fourth Innings: Lourdes scored 15 runs in the fourth inning of Sunday's two games combined at Indiana Tech. The Gray Wolves tallied nine in the opener to build a 9-0 lead while adding six more to rally from a 4-1 deficit in game two. On the season Lourdes has scored 25 fourth inning runs, most of any frame.
13 for 14 for Schaub: Alyssa Schaub started the season with at least one hit in her first 11 games before going 0-for-3 in game two against Northwestern Ohio. The senior outfielder picked up with hits in both games of Indiana Tech's twinbill, and has now hit safely in 13 of the 14 games this year. Schaub has tallied a team-high eight multi-hit contests and leads the team with a .489 batting average (22-for-45). Schaub has tallied seven doubles, a triple, and three home runs for an .889 slugging percentage as well. In addition, Schaub is a perfect 11-for-11 stealing bases.
Megyesi Reaching Base Consistently: Bre Megyesi enters the week having reached base in nine straight contests for the Gray Wolves. She is hitting .318 on the year with a .434 on base percentage. Megyesi has matched the team's second longest streak behind
Alyssa Schaub's 11-game streak earlier this year.Â
Erica Marvaso also had a previous nine-game on base streak.
Roberts Driving Home Runs:Â
Hayley Roberts has tallied a team-leading 14 runs batted in this season for the Gray Wolves. The junior has recorded four multi-RBI games already this season, including a four RBI contest in the opener at Indiana Tech. Roberts shares the team lead with
Alyssa Schaub with three home runs each, giving her six career round-trippers and 52 career runs batted in.
Producing with Two Outs: As a team, Lourdes has driven in 36 runs with two outs already this season, an average of 2.57 per game.Â
Hayley Roberts leads with 10 two-out RBI each while
Bre Megyesi and
Megan Mosiniak have added five two-out RBI. As a team Lourdes is batting .331 with two outs, including Roberts' 8-for-13 (.615) outburst.
Leading Off Innings: Leadoff hitters have been on base 48-of-90 opportunities this season, a .533 clip.Â
Alyssa Schaub leads the way, getting on base 13-of-19 times (.684). Four different players have led off an inning at least 10 times, and all four have reached at least 50% of the time.
