For the first time this season at home, Lourdes dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, falling 11-5 and 10-2 to Concordia (Mich.) at Pacesetter Park.
Â
Concordia started quickly in the opener, scoring two unearned runs in the opening inning before adding two more in the second. Lourdes cut its deficit in half in the bottom of the third with RBI singles from
Megan Mosiniak (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) and
Bre Megyesi (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.).
Â
The Cardinals immediately responded, plating four in the top of the fourth to build an 8-2 advantage. The Gray Wolves tallied two in the bottom of the frame as
Jaime Newman (Edgerton, Ohio/Edgerton H.S.) scored on a wild pitch and
Kayla Encalado (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) hit a sacrifice fly to plate
Ashley Yeager (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.).
Â
Lourdes added another run in the bottom of the sixth on a double steal as Newman swiped home to pull the Gray Wolves within three. Concordia responded with three in the top of the seven though to secure the victory.
Â
Newman and Yeager each had two hits to pace Lourdes' eight-hit attack in the opener.Â
Â
Corrina Rotondo went the distance in the circle for the win (6-4), striking out four for the Cardinals.Â
Brooke Gallaher suffered the loss (2-6), allowing four runs, two of which were earned, and five hits in 1.1 innings of work.
Â
The Gray Wolves struck quickly in the second as
Alyssa Schaub (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) led off with a single, moved to second on a bunt and third on a passed ball. A fielding error allowed her to give Lourdes a 1-0 lead.
Â
Lourdes maintained the advantage until the third when Concordia capitalized on four Gray Wolf errors to score four times. The visitors added two more runs in the fourth before a Yeager single plated Newman in the bottom of the fifth to pull Lourdes to within 6-2. The Gray Wolves continued to threaten, loading the bass with one out, but were unable to do any more damage.
Â
Concordia (12-10, 6-4 WHAC) responded with three runs immediately in the sixth and another in the seventh on the way to the sweep.
Â
Lourdes managed just three hits offensively in game two while committing six errors in the field.
Â
Cheyenne Brierley tossed the complete game win (6-5) for the Cardinals while Gallaher suffered the loss (2-7), allowing six runs, four of which were earned, in 3.1 innings of work.
Â
Lourdes (6-12, 4-6) will return to the diamond on Sunday as they Gray Wolves travel to Madonna. First pitch of the doubleheader has been moved up to noon at University Field in Livonia, Mich.
