"It feels good to get that first win under our belt," head coach
Jackie Donovan said afterwards. "No we can continue to build. I thought we threw a lot of different things at our girls tonight and they responded to each challenge."
The Gray Wolves controlled the play in the opening half, outshooting the Beavers 11-1, including 6-0 on goal, but were unable to find the back of the goal. Ashley Knippen made five of her six saves for Bluffton (2-2) in the opening half.
Jada Foster (Lenox Township, Mich./Anchor Bay H.S.) put Lourdes on the scoreboard with 19:26 remaining in the match, taking a feed through the middle from
Remy Houttekier (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Andover H.S.), before finding the back of the goal.
The Gray Wolves continued to pressure late in the match, and had several opportunities for an insurance tally, but were unable to find one.
Lourdes outshot Bluffton 20-7 for the match and the two sides were even winning three corner kicks each. Knippen finished with six saves for the Beavers while
Erika Brinkman (Kalida, Ohio/Kalida H.S.) made three stops between the posts for the Gray Wolves to earn her second shutout of the season.
Lourdes (1-1-1) will take to the road on Tuesday evening, traveling to Purdue Calumet. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. EDT at Dowling Park in Hammond, Ind.
