The seventh-ranked Lourdes men's volleyball team captured a pair of victories on the final day of the Lourdes Invitational at Tam-o-Shanter on Saturday, defeating 10^th-ranked Robert Morris (Ill.) in straight sets before downing Siena Heights in a four-set contest.
 
The Gray Wolves swept the Eagles 25-15, 25-18, 25-18 before registering a 25-16, 16-25, 25-18, 26-24 victory over Siena Heights in the night contest. 
 
Lourdes hit .394 in the three-set victory over Robert Morris (5-2) as Zachary Hawkins (Dickinson, Texas/Dickinson H.S.) tallied 13 kills and Eric Ubior (Guaynabo, P.R./Wesleyan Academy) added 12 more.  The Gray Wolves limited the Eagles to just .157 hitting and outdug their guests 51-37 for the match.
 
"We served better, hit better, and in general played must better volleyball than last night," head coach Greg Reitz said after the first win.
 
Lourdes hit .484 in the opening set, committing just one error, but had to battle back from an early 7-3 deficit.  Behind the service of Hawkins, the Gray Wolves tallied five straight point to take an 8-7 advantage.  After Robert Morris tied the set at nine, Lourdes scored at least one point off after gaining the serve the rest of the way, while siding out on every opportunity, slowly opening up the advantage.
 
In the second set Lourdes scored 12 of the 16 nine points and never trailed while hitting .432.  Ryan Maune (Washington, Mo./Saint Francis Borgia H.S.) ran off runs of four and five straight points to help the Gray Wolves take a 2-0 lead in the match. 
 
The third set was tied at 15 when Lourdes went on its run behind the service of Hawkins and Ubior.  A 7-1 spurt allowed the Gray Wolves to secure the split, and register their first top-10 victory of the season.
 
Ryan Ferkel (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly H.S.) handed out 36 assists and tallied 11 digs in the win while CJ Rilveria (Kula, Hawaii/Kekaulike H.S.) added a match-high 17 digs.
 
Gueorguui Boykov led Robert Morris with 13 kills while Dalton Tucker added 14 digs.
 
The night match against Siena Heights was more of a roller coaster for the Gray Wolves.  Lourdes finished the match hitting .252 while limiting the Saints to just a .136 clip and the Gray Wolves had three players record double-doubles.  Ubior hit .423 with 13 kills and 11 digs while Hawkins also had 13 kills and 11 digs.  Garrett Jones (Las Vegas, Nev./Las Vegas H.S.) added 12 kills and 11 digs.
 
Lourdes came out in impressive fashion in the opening set, tallying 14 kills without and error to hit .467, while holding the Saints to a .054 clip.  The roles were reversed in the second set, as the Gray Wolves had seven errors and hit .108, while Siena Heights tallied a .360 hitting percentage with just two miscues.
 
"We played an incredible first set which was as close to flawless as we have ever been," Reitz added.  "However, we made a lot of errors in the second set."
 
Lourdes took back control of the match in the third set, never trailing the entire way, before having to play from behind in the fourth set.  Trailing 24-21, Ubior started the comeback with a kill before stepping to the service line.  The Saints then proceeded to commit four straight errors as the Gray Wolves fought off three set points to win the match.
 
"We showed a lot of heart in the fourth set to come back late," Reitz added.
 
Ferkel handed out 42 assists in the victory, and was involved in a key block with Brendan Brown (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny H.S.) in the final 5-0 run.
 
Tyler Hubbard-Neil led Siena Heights (1-3) with 16 kills and 10 digs while Matthew Dugan added 15 kills for the Saints.
 
Lourdes (4-1) will begin a three-match road trip on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves head to Cincinnati, Ohio to face Cincinnati Christian.  First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Presidents Hall.
