Battling delays throughout the match, Lourdes was unable to overcome two early goals by Indiana Tech and fell to the Warriors 2-0 in a match shortened to 70 minutes due to weather at Warrior Field in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Â
The start of the match was delayed by 50 minutes due to transportation issues for the Gray Wolves, and then there were a pair of lightning delays in the second half prior to the contest finally being called.
Â
Indiana Tech (2-6-2, 1-1 WHAC) scored just 2:42 into the match as Krstien Roe headed in a corner from Jessica Zurcher. The Warriors added to the lead less than seven minutes later as Becca Hoklas sent a cross into the six-yard box which was headed in by Marina Steffke.
Â
Lourdes held a 6-4 advantage in total shots at halftime, including a 3-2 advantage on goal, but Tailer Roscoe stopped all three Gray Wolf attempts.
Â
Tori Koontz (Chesterfield, Mich./L'anse Crevse North H.S.) sent a shot off of the crossbar just prior to the second weather delay in the 62
nd minute as Lourdes looked to get on the scoreboard. Another weather issue after 70 minutes forced the premature ending to the contest.
Â
The Gray Wolves finished with an 8-6 edge in shots for the match with each team putting three shots on frame.
Â
Lourdes (2-6-1, 0-3) will return home for three of its next four contests beginning on Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Madonna. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
