After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, Madonna tallied a pair of goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half to defeat Lourdes 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium.

Madonna held an 8-5 shot advantage in the first half, including a 6-1 edge on goal, but
Kiley Transit (Royal Oak, Mich./Royal Oak H.S.) stopped each attempt to keep the match scoreless.

Nicolette Vultaggio put the Crusaders on the scoreboard just 3:09 out of intermission, dribbling through the Gray Wolf defense into the penalty area before finding the back of the net.

Kelly Capoccia added an insurance tally at the 64:53 mark, taking a long ball from Taylor Kelly and scoring from inside of the box.

Lourdes was unable to generate any offense in the second half, as the Gray Wolves were outshot by Madonna 7-3 in the period, including a 4-0 edge on goal.

Despite being outshot 15-8 for the match, Lourdes did have the only three corner kick opportunities in the contest.

Transit finished the match with eight saves for the Gray Wolves while Julia Stewart saved the only shot she faced to earn the shutout for Madonna (5-3-2, 2-2 WHAC).

Lourdes (2-7-1, 0-4) will close out its brief two-match homestand on Saturday afternoon for Homecoming and Senior Day. Kickoff against Marygrove is set for 2 p.m.
