Lourdes turned a 43-2 shot advantage into a 3-0 victory over Marygrove on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves celebrated Senior Day and Homecoming at Wildcat Stadium.
Â
"This was a great way to celebrate our seniors with a conference win," head coach
Jackie Donovan stated. "I'm extremely proud of these five seniors and all of their contributions to the program."
Â
Prior to the match, Lourdes honored
Lexie Cano (Woodhaven, Mich./Riverview H.S.),
Kendyl Christian (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.),
Abby Groll (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.),
Kayla Lehmann (Temperance, Mich./Bedford H.S.), and
Hayley Wagner (Monclova, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.).
Â
Despite an 18-2 shot advantage in the opening half, it took a corner kick from
Jada Foster (Lenox Township, Mich./Anchor Bay H.S.) to find the foot of
Halee Roberts (Toledo, Ohio/Notre Dame H.S.) in the goalmouth to put the Gray Wolves on the scoreboard.
Â
Karlie O'Keefe (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) made it 2-0 Gray Wolves with 34:33 remaining in the match, sending a blast from the top of the box into the back of the net following
Clare Ciarlino's (Taylor, Mich./Truman H.S.) corner.
Â
Wagner then celebrated Senior Day with her second goal of the year, going far post following a Mustang turnover.
Â
Lourdes held Marygrove (1-9, 0-4 WHAC) without a shot over the final 45 minutes, as
Kiley Transit (Royal Oak, Mich./Royal Oak H.S.) and
Klarissa Wegner (New Haven, Mich./New Haven H.S.) combined for the shutout. Melyssa Olmstead made 15 saves in goal for the Mustangs.
Â
The Gray Wolves also held a 17-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities, turning two into goals.
Â
Lourdes (3-7-1, 1-4) will take to the road on Wednesday evening, traveling to Siena Heights. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at O'Laughlin Stadium in Adrian, Mich.
