Lourdes took to the diamond for the first time in 2016 on Sunday morning at Hancock Park in Clermont, Fla., but the Gray Wolves suffered a pair of defeats.  Lake Erie defeated Lourdes 15-7 in the opener before Saint Thomas edged the Gray Wolves 5-4 in game two.

"We didn't execute the little things that we needed to," head coach Jo Ann Gordon said afterwards.  "We need to keep putting pressure on the opposition."

Errors proved costly for the Gray Wolves on the day.  In game one, five Lourdes miscues led to 10 unearned runs for the Storm.  Lake Erie scored a single unearned run in the first, then added eight more in the second, five of which were unearned, to build a 9-0 lead.

Lourdes plated their first runs in the bottom of the second as Megan Mosiniak (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) singled home Hayley Roberts (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) and Erica Marvaso (Huron Township, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) scored on an error by the Lake Erie outfield.

After Lake Erie added five more runs in the fourth to build a 14-2 lead, Lourdes battled back with four runs of its own in the bottom of the frame.  Kayla Encalado (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) drove home a run on an infield hit and Breyahna Guy (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) added a pinch-hit RBI walk.  A wild pitch plated the third run before Olivia Stanton (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland H.S.) added a run-scoring ground out for her first collegiate RBI.

The Storm tacked on an insurance run in the fifth before Mosiniak capped her 3-for-3 game with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth for the Gray Wolves' final tally.

"I liked the way we battled and didn't give up in game one," Gordon added.

Marvaso went 2-for-2 as well for Lourdes in the opener as part of the team's nine hit attack.

Marissa Rizzo went 3-for-4 with a triple and four runs scored to pace the Lake Erie (1-0) offense, which tallied 14 hits on the day.

Allyson Deemer earned the win (1-0) in the circle for the Storm, allowing two earned runs and six hits in three innings of work.  Brooke Gallaher (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) suffered the loss (0-1), surrendering seven runs, only three of which were earned, and five hits in 1.1 innings in the circle.

Lourdes struck first against Saint Thomas as Roberts' sacrifice fly in the top of the first plated Bre Megyesi (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) with the game's first run.  A Mosiniak single scored Megyesi in the third to increase the Gray Wolves' lead to 2-0.

The Bobcats took the lead in the bottom of the third, scoring three times while taking advantage of another Lourdes miscue for two of the runs.  Saint Thomas added to the lead in the fourth with two more runs before the Gray Wolves tried to rally late.

"We beat ourselves in that inning and it proved costly," Gordon said.

Kloee Cuckler (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton H.S.) drove home her first collegiate run with a single to right-center to score Mosiniak in the sixth while Hillary West (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) added a RBI hit in the inning as well.  The Gray Wolves were unable to push across the tying run in the final two frames though.

Megyesi went 3-for-4 to lead the Lourdes offense in the second game while Mosiniak and Cuckler had two hits each as part of a 10-hit effort.

Jamie Gonzalez went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in to lead the Saint Thomas (4-4) offense.

Bridget Ruhl earned the win for the Bobcats in relief while Greta Longagnani pitched a scoreless seventh to earn the save.  Samantha Shirling (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood H.S.) suffered the loss (0-1), allowing three earned runs on seven hits in four innings of work.

Lourdes (0-2) will return to action on Monday at Hancock Park.  The Gray Wolves will face Bethel (Ind.) at 1 p.m. before battling Lyndon State in a 3 p.m. contest.
