Playing its first doubleheader since returning north from the annual spring trip, Lourdes dropped both ends of Friday's twinbill against Taylor 7-4 and 3-0 at Gudakunstt Field in Upland, Ind.
Â
The Gray Wolves committed six errors over the two games, and stranded 11 runners on base between the two contests.
Â
"We had some missed opportunities today," head coach
Jo Ann Gordon said afterwards. "Our fielding was not good today. You can't give a good team that many chances."
Â
Lourdes took advantage of a pair of Trojan errors in the top of the first of game one to plate a pair of runs, taking the early lead.Â
Bre Megyesi (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) and
Jaime Newman (Edgerton, Ohio/Edgerton H.S.) both had singles in the inning before coming around to score on Taylor miscues.
Â
Taylor answered with a run in the first and took the lead for good in the second, scoring three time, taking advantage of a pair of hit batsmen. Lourdes responded with a run in the top of the third as
Hayley Roberts (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) singled home Newman for her second run of the game.
Â
A single run in the bottom of the third and two more in the fourth allowed the hosts to build a 7-3 advantage before
Megan Mosiniak (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) led off the seventh inning with her second home run of the season to conclude the scoring.
Â
Megyesi, Newman, and Roberts each had two hits for Lourdes, combining for six of the team's eight hits.
Â
Hannah Robbins earned the win (3-1), allowing just two earned runs while striking out seven in six innings of work. Maddie Cornell pitched a scoreless seventh for the save.Â
Brooke Gallaher (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) suffered the loss (1-3), surrendering four earned runs and eight hits in a complete game effort.
Â
Taylor (7-5) plated a pair of unearned runs in the opening inning and added a late insurance run in the fifth of game two for the game's only scoring. Lourdes threated in the seventh, putting runners on second and third with one out, but could not score.
Â
The Gray Wolves managed just three hits in the nightcap, as Ashley Miller gave up just one in four innings to earn the win (4-1). Cornell earned her second save of the year, tossing the final three frames.
Â
Kloee Cuckler (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton H.S.) suffer the loss (2-1), giving up two unearned runs and two hits in 2.2 innings in the circle.
Â
Lourdes (6-8) will open the home portion of the 2016 schedule on Friday afternoon as the Gray Wolves welcome Huntington to Pacesetter Park. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3 p.m.
