Photo GalleryPlaying at Wildcat Stadium for the first time in program history, Lourdes had its 2016 home opener spoiled by Robert Morris (Ill.) on Friday evening as the Eagles posted an 11-5 win over the Gray Wolves.
Â
"I thought we had a solid performance against a top-ranked team," head coach
Paul Sieben said afterwards. "This was another good team effort on both offense and defense."
Â
The sixth-ranked Eagles scored the game's first four goals before Lourdes got tallies from
Haley Brown (Temperance, Mich./Bedford H.S.) and
Alyssa Long (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn H.S.) to cut the deficit in half by intermission.
Â
Robert Morris scored seven of the first eight goals in the final 30 minutes to increase the lead to 11-3, allowing just a tally to Long during the span.Â
Anna Zofchak (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover H.S.) scored with 6:47 to play before Long added her third goal of the game in the final two minutes for the final margin.
Â
"Seven of the 11 goals we allowed were in penalty situations, either with them having a man up or from the free position," Sieben added.
Â
Samantha Sellers scored five times for Robert Morris while Mary Prunte added three more.
Â
The Eagles outshot Lourdes 20-18 for the game, but had a 14-4 edge in draw controls. Emily Bernard made five saves in the win for Robert Morris (3-0) while
Kiley Ketteman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson H.S.) made six stops for the Gray Wolves. Long and Zofchak had a team-high three ground balls each for Lourdes.
