Lourdes played its second straight top-five opponent on the road Saturday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves suffered a 19-6 loss to third-ranked Indiana Tech at Warrior Field in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Alyssa Long (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn H.S.) tied the game at one just over four minutes into the contest, the first of three tallies for the sophomore on the afternoon.
The Warriors scored the next 10 goals, including five in an eight-minute span, to build an 11-1 advantage heading into halftime.
"We started with high intensity and were strong defensively early," head coach
Paul Sieben said. "They went on a run before we got in a rhythm shooting on offense and that proved to be the difference. We did a much better job with our ball control late in the game."
Long added two more goals in the second half and assisted on one of
Jessie Frost's (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton H.S.) two tallies on the afternoon. Frost also had an assist on a goal by
Anna Zofchak (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover H.S.).
Alexa Winter scored four times to pace Indiana Tech (7-0, 4-0 WHAC) as nine different Warriors found the back of the cage on the afternoon. Indiana Tech finished the game with a 29-11 shot advantage.
Kiley Ketteman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson H.S.) made five saves in goal for the Gray Wolves. Frost had five ground balls and four draw controls for Lourdes as well.
Lourdes (4-5, 1-3) will return home on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves wrap up the first half of WHAC play entertaining Siena Heights. The opening draw is set for 5 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
