Lourdes returned home to Pacesetter Park for the first time in three weeks on Saturday, but dropped a doubleheader to Indiana Tech 6-3 and 3-2, with game two going 11 innings.
Â
Indiana Tech jumped on top in the opening inning of game one, scoring on a bases loaded walk, but Lourdes would answer one inning later. In the second,
Hayley Roberts (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly from
Taylor Tafelski (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) to knot the game at one.
Â
The Gray Wolves took advantage of a Warrior error in the third, scoring a pair of unearned runs.Â
Taylor Genzman (Saint Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview H.S.) singled home one run and
Megan Mosiniak (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) gave Lourdes the lead with a RBI single.
Â
Single runs in the fourth and fifth allowed Indiana Tech to tie the game at three and a two-out two-run triple by Caitlyn Walker in the seventh put the Warriors on top for good
Â
Lourdes had 10 hits in game one, including two from both
Bre Megyesi (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) and Genzman, but the Gray Wolves stranded eight runners on base.
Â
"I'm disappointed we had a lot of missed opportunities in the opener," head coach
Jo Ann Gordon said. "We didn't accomplish the little things we needed to do to win the game."
Â
Jamie Klips earned the win (2-3) in the circle for Indiana Tech, allowing just one earned run and eight hits in six innings of work.Â
Kloee Cuckler (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton H.S.) suffered the loss (2-2), allowing the three seventh inning runs as part of her two innings in the circle.
Â
Game two was scoreless into the fifth inning when Lourdes plated a pair of runs. Megyesi tripled home
Hillary West (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) and scored one batter later on a single by
Jaime Newman (Edgerton, Ohio/Edgerton H.S.).Â
Â
Indiana Tech (13-21, 2-4 WHAC) tied the game in the top of the sixth on a two-out double by Alexis Vargo, the only two runs
Marissa Kostick (Saint Charles, Mich./Saint Charles H.S.) would allow in nine innings of work.
Â
"Marissa did a really nice job," Gordon stated. "Game two was a pitcher's duel and they got the clutch hits. We didn't take advantage of our opportunities."
Â
The Warriors broke through in the 11
th, taking advantage of a pair of Lourdes errors to help score the go ahead run.
Â
Vargo earned the win in the circle, giving up just three hits and three walks in 6.1 innings of scoreless relief.Â
Brooke Gallaher (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) suffered the loss, allowing the unearned run in the 11
th inning.
Â
Megyesi, Newman, and Mosiniak had two hits each for the Gray Wolves, as the top three in the Lourdes lineup accounted for six of the team's eight hits.
Â
Lourdes (9-15, 0-4 WHAC) will look to bounce back on Sunday afternoon as the Gray Wolves entertain Northwestern Ohio. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Pacesetter Park.
