Northwestern Ohio tallied 21 runs on 27 hits over two games on Sunday afternoon at Pacesetter Park, defeating Lourdes 10-7 and 8-1 on Senior Day for the Gray Wolves.
The Racers jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the opener after two-and-a-half innings before the Gray Wolves rallied to tie the contest with three runs in the third and three more in the fourth. After Lourdes tied the game, Northwestern Ohio immediately responded with four runs in the top of the fifth, and added an insurance run in the seventh. Megan Mosiniak's (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) second triple of the game
Mosiniak finished 3-for-5 with four runs batted in and scored twice while
Jaime Newman (Edgerton, Ohio/Edgerton H.S.) set a school record with five hits in the game. Newman also scored four times.
Taylor Tafelski (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) also had a three-hit game as Lourdes tallied 17 safeties in the contest.
Emily Rockman went 4-for-5 with six runs batted in for the Racers in the opener.
Lauren Yates earned the win (2-1) in the circle, tossing four innings of relief.
Samantha Shirling (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood H.S.), who came on in relief as well, suffered the loss (0-4), tossing 4.1 innings.
Northwestern Ohio (22-11, 7-3 WHAC) took the lead in game two with a four-run fourth inning and added four more in the sixth inning, as the Racers took advantage of a pair of Lourdes errors to score five unearned runs.
Lourdes got its only run on a RBI double by
Kayla Encalado (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) in the bottom of the fourth, one of two hits she had in the game as the Gray Wolves' lone player to have a multi-hit game.
Marissa Kostick (Saint Charles, Mich./Saint Charles H.S.) suffered the loss (4-3), despite allowing just two earned runs in four innings of work. Chelsea Miller registered the win (8-3), not allowing an earned run in a complete game effort.
Lourdes (9-17, 0-6) will continue its 10-game homestand on Tuesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Madonna in a make-up of the April 10 postponement. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at Pacesetter Park.
