Upcoming in Gray Wolves Softball: A busy week is ahead for Lourdes softball as the Gray Wolves reach the penultimate week of the regular season. The Gray Wolves have four doubleheaders scheduled, hosting Madonna and Cornerstone on Tuesday and Thursday respectively before traveling to Concordia (Mich.) and Siena Heights on Friday and Saturday.
Head Coach Jo Ann Gordon: In her fourth season on the Lourdes bench,
Jo Ann Gordon has a 45-87 (.341) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In her 14th season overall as a head softball coach, Gordon has a 197-375 (.344) career mark. She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Madonna is 8-0 all-time against Lourdes dating back to April 14, 2013. The Crusaders swept last year's twinbill in Livonia, and are 3-0 in the all-time series at Pacesetter Park. Cornerstone is 5-2 all-time against Lourdes dating back to March 4, 2013, but the Gray Wolves swept last year's doubleheader in Grand Rapids, Mich. Cornerstone is 2-0 all-time in the series at Pacesetter Park. Concordia (Mich.) holds a 5-3 series advantage, beginning April 17, 2013. The Cardinals swept the regular season twinbill at Pacesetter Park last year before Lourdes eliminated Concordia from the WHAC tournament 3-2. The two teams have split the two previous games in Ann Arbor, Mich. 1-1. Siena Heights holds a 5-3 series advantage over the Gray Wolves dating back to April 21, 2013. Last year the two teams split the regular season twinbill at Pacesetter Park before Lourdes eliminated the Saints 3-2 in the WHAC tournament. Siena Heights has won the only two previous games in Adrian, Mich.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Michigan-Dearborn took both ends of a doubleheader from Lourdes on Wednesday, winning 12-4 and 10-9.Â
Megan Mosiniak went 2-for-3 with three RBI in the opener while also going 3-for-4 with three RBI in game two. On Saturday the Gray Wolves dropped a twinbill at home against Indiana Tech 6-3 and 3-2 in 11 innings.Â
Taylor Genzman and
Bre Megyesi each had two hits in game one while
Bre Megyesi and
Jaime Newman drove home the game two runs. Sunday Lourdes fell 13-10 and 8-1 to Northwestern Ohio. Newman was 5-for-5 with four runs scored in game one with Mosiniak driving home four.Â
Kayla Encalado had two hits in game two.
Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders enter Tuesday having won a pair of games over Indiana Tech on Sunday. Emma Cook leads Madonna batting .476 with 46 runs batted in for a team hitting .340. The Crusader pitching staff sports a 2.47 earned run average while teams are batting .272 against them. Â
Scouting Cornerstone: The Golden Eagles enter the week having dropped four straight games, but host Cleary on Wednesday before facing Lourdes. Elizabeth Albaugh is hitting a team-leading .357 with four home runs and 11 RBI for a team batting .275. Cornerstone's pitching staff sports a 4.58 ERA and hurlers are allowing the opposition to bat .294 against them.
Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals head into the week after being swept by Davenport on Saturday in a doubleheader. Concordia heads to Aquinas and Indiana Tech and hosts Siena Heights before facing Lourdes. Samantha Capuzzi leads the Cardinals batting .416 with five homers and 22 RBI as Concordia is hitting .305 as a squad. The pitching staff sports a 2.33 ERA and are holding teams to a .274 batting average.
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints enter the week off of a doubleheader split at #11 Davenport on Sunday and face Adrian, Aquinas, Concordia, and Michigan-Dearborn before playing Lourdes. Kelsie Abbott is hitting a team-high 430 with 39 RBI while the Saints are batting .305 as a team. Siena Heights pitchers sport a 3.17 ERA and opponents are hitting .277 against them.
Schedule Update: Lourdes will host Hillsdale next Tuesday, April 26 in a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.
Record-Setting Effort: Jaime Newman had five hits in game one of Sunday's doubleheader against Northwestern Ohio, setting a new school mark for hits in a contest. Newman is hitting a team-leading .469 for the Gray Wolves this season after batting .298 as a freshman. She ranks second in the WHAC and 22nd nationally in hitting.
A Doubles Machine: Megan Mosiniak leads the NAIA averaging 0.654 doubles per contest this season. The senior's 17 doubles are 15th most nationally, and are second in the WHAC. For her career, Mosiniak now has 34 two-baggers.
Encalado's Bat Heating Up: Kayla Encalado has raised her batting average .179 points from .115 to .294 over her last eight games. The junior is 12 for her last 25 at the plate, and has multi-hit games in five of her last eight contests.
Quite the Hitting Streak: Megan Mosiniak has hit safely in 11 straight games dating back to the second game of the doubleheader against Huntington. The senior is 20-for-40 (.500) during the streak, and has raised her season average to .442, second best on the team.
This and That: Megan Mosiniak and
Bre Megyesi have 12 and 10 multi-hit games respectively ... Mosiniak has started all 132 games of her career ... the Gray Wolves have had only 17 strikeouts looking this season.
