Upcoming in Gray Wolves Softball: The final week of the 2016 regular season has arrived for Lourdes and the Gray Wolves conclude the campaign with four doubleheaders, including two at home. Lourdes welcomes Hillsdale and Cornerstone to Pacesetter Park on Tuesday and Wednesday before heading to Grand Rapids, Mich. on Friday and Saturday to face Davenport and Aquinas.
Head Coach Jo Ann Gordon: In her fourth season on the Lourdes bench,
Jo Ann Gordon has a 47-91 (.341) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In her 14th season overall as a head softball coach, Gordon has a 199-379 (.344) career mark. She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Hillsdale is 5-0 all-time against Lourdes dating back to March 9, 2013. The Chargers swept last year's twinbill in Hillsdale, Mich., and are 2-0 in the all-time series at Pacesetter Park. Cornerstone is 5-2 all-time against Lourdes dating back to March 4, 2013, but the Gray Wolves swept last year's doubleheader in Grand Rapids, Mich. Cornerstone is 2-0 all-time in the series at Pacesetter Park. Davenport is 7-0 all-time against Lourdes in a series that began April 7, 2013. Last season the Panthers won all three meetings against Lourdes, including a first round meeting in the WHAC tournament. Davenport is 2-0 in the series in Grand Rapids, Mich. Aquinas holds a 5-2 series advantage over the Gray Wolves dating back to April 26, 2013. Last year the two teams split the regular season twinbill at Pacesetter Park before Aquinas eliminated the Gray Wolves 7-5 in the WHAC tournament. Aquinas has won the only two previous games in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Wrapping Up Last Week: On Tuesday Lourdes split a twinbill with Madonna, dropping the opener 10-7 before rebounding for a 4-3 victory.Â
Hayley Roberts went 3-for-4 with three RBI in the opener while going 2-for-3 with three RBI in game two. On Saturday, Concordia (Mich.) swept a doubleheader from the Gay Wolves 11-8 and 8-4.Â
Olivia Stanton was 2-for-4 with two RBI in game one and
Megan Mosiniak drove home two runs in game two. On Sunday, Siena Heights took the opener from Lourdes 12-11 before the Gray Wolves won game two 10-4. Stanton was 3-for-3 with three runs scored in game one and
Bre Megyesi went 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI in the nightcap. Â
Scouting Hillsdale: The Chargers enter the week having dropped a twinbill at Grand Valley State 7-1 and 3-0 on Sunday. Bekah Kastning leads Hillsdale batting .427 with four home runs and 27 RBI for a team hitting .311 overall. The Chargers pitching staff sports a 2.15 earned run average and has limited opponents to a .279 batting average. Â
Scouting Cornerstone: The Golden Eagles enter the week having split a doubleheader at Indiana Tech on Saturday, but travel to Calvin on Monday before facing Lourdes. Harlie Sherman is hitting a team-leading .387 with four home runs and 19 RBI for a team batting .287. Cornerstone's pitching staff sports a 4.79 ERA and hurlers are allowing the opposition to bat .295 against them.
Scouting Davenport: The Panthers head into the week after sweeping Michigan-Dearborn on Sunday in a doubleheader. Lauren French is hitting a team-leading .403 while Alyssa Eastman has 11 home runs and 40 runs batted in for a team hitting .310. The Davenport pitching staff sports a 1.97 earned run average and opponents are batting .217 against them.
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints enter the week having dropped 11 of their last 12 overall. Aquinas hosts Cleary and Olivet Nazarene on Friday before entertaining Lourdes. Ellie Adams leads Aquinas batting .347 with four home runs and 19 RBI for a team hitting .282. The Saints' pitching staff sports a 4.87 earned run average and opponents are batting .318 against them.
New Records: Megan Mosiniak has set a new single season school mark with 44 hits this season, surpassing
Alyssa Schaub's mark of 40 set in 2014 and 2015. Mosiniak has also shattered the school's single season doubles mark with 17, which ranks 21st nationally. Â
Welcome Back Olivia: Olivia Stanton returned to the Gray Wolf lineup last week after missing 12 games due to injury. She went 7-for-13 in the two weekend doubleheaders against Concordia (Mich.) and Siena Heights, with four doubles and three runs batted in.
Constant Look on the Infield: Lourdes infield has been the same for nearly every game this season.Â
Erica Marvaso and
Bre Megyesi have started all 32 contests at third base and shortstop respectively, while
Kayla Encalado has started all but one game at second base.Â
Megan Mosiniak has been the starting first baseman for 30 of the 32 contests.
One Streak Ends, Another Continues: Megan Mosiniak went 0-for-3 in game two on Sunday at Siena Heights, ending her team-leading 13-game hitting streak. The senior was hit by a pitch though, extending her on base streak to 17 consecutive games.
