Upcoming in Gray Wolves Softball: After posting a runner-up finish in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament last week, Lourdes secured an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships, and will begin Opening Round play on Monday evening against Auburn Montgomery in Montgomery, Ala.  The Gray Wolves will then face either Central Methodist or Rio Grande on the second day in the double elimination event.

Head Coach Jo Ann Gordon: In her fourth season on the Lourdes bench, Jo Ann Gordon has a 54-98 (.355) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  In her 14th season overall as a head softball coach, Gordon has a 206-386 (.348) career mark.  She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Lourdes has never faced any of the three teams in the Auburn Montgomery bracket on the diamond before.

All-Time in the NAIA National Championship: Lourdes is making its first appearance ever in the NAIA National Championship in just the program's fourth season of play overall.

Wrapping Up the WHAC Tournament: Lourdes opened play on Thursday dropping a 5-0 decision against top-seed Davenport before rebounding with a 5-3 victory over Concordia (Mich.) in an elimination game as Samantha Shirling earned her first win of the season in the circle.  The Gray Wolves continued their run on Friday with three straight victories.  Marissa Kostick tossed a three-hitter in a 2-1 win over Cornerstone before Megan Mosiniak drove home three runs and Lourdes banged out 17 hits in a 12- victory over Siena Heights.  Brooke Gallaher earned the win and Bre Megyesi tallied three hits to complete the day's action, a 5-3 win over Michigan-Dearborn.  The run came to an end on Monday in the title game as Davenport defeated Lourdes 6-1.

Scouting Auburn Montgomery: The two-time defending NAIA national champion Warhawks have won 12 of their last 13 games after capturing the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament championship.  Amy Persinger leads AUM batting .347 with 10 home runs and 36 runs batted in while Kayla Hale is hitting .340 with 10 homers and 45 RBI.  As a team the Warhawks are hitting .282.  In the circle, Taylor Powell is 30-3 with a 0.68 ERA and 260 strikeouts.  The Auburn Montgomery pitching staff sports a 1.07 ERA while opponents are batting .178 against them.

Scouting Central Methodist: The Eagles enter the tournament following a 3-2 loss to Avila in the championship of the Heart of America Athletic Conference tournament.  Hannah Blackmon leads Central Methodist with a .381 batting average and 47 runs batted in while Lauren Geringer has hit 21 home runs.  As a team the Eagles are batting .321.  Erin Enke leads the hurlers with a 20-7 record and a 2.00 earned run average.  The CMU pitching staff sports a 2.52 ERA and opponents are batting .229 against them.

Scouting Rio Grande: The Red Storm enter the tournament having won 18 straight games after downing Indiana-Southeast in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament title game.  Ariel Roder leads Rio Grande batting .388 with six home runs for a team that is hitting .312.  In the circle, Jenna Jones is 18-0 with a 0.98 ERA as the Red Storm's pitching staff sports a 1.43 ERA with opponents batting .195 against them.

All-Time Against Ranked Foes: With all three other teams in the bracket being ranked in the NAIA top-25, Lourdes has already played six games this season against nationally ranked foes.  The Gray Wolves are still looking for their first win ever against a top-25 opponent, as Lourdes is 0-13 all-time.

Matching Longest Win Streak Ever: What made the Gray Wolves' run through the losers bracket to the WHAC title game even more improbable was the fact that Lourdes matched a school record with four straight wins in doing so.  Previously, the only other time Lourdes had won four games in a row was March 14-15 and April 5-6 in 2014.

Conference Honors: Megan Mosiniak was named First Team All-WHAC on the infield while Jaime Newman was an Honorable Mention All-WHAC outfielder.  Mosiniak enters the NAIA National Championship Opening Round batting .369 while leading the Gray Wolves with 40 runs batted in, 55 hits, and 19 doubles.  Newman is hitting a team-leading .383 this season and is second on the squad with 11 stolen bases.

More Honors: Seniors Bre Megyesi and Megan Mosiniak were both named to the Capital One Academic All-District I First Team as selected by CoSIDA.  They were among 14 total student-athletes across the 22-state district to earn the honor.  Megyesi is a three-time Academic All-District selection and was a Second Team Academic All-American last season while Mosiniak captured the honor for the first time.

Kostick Setting Pitching Marks: Marissa Kostick has set numerous single season pitching records for the Gray Wolves in 2016.  She has 10 victories, bettering the old mark of seven, while tying the school mark with 23 appearances.  In addition, she has matched the complete games record (12), while also setting a new mark for innings pitched (125.2).  Her 2.90 ERA is below the current record of 3.67 as well.

Defensive Records: Megan Mosiniak has set a new single season school mark with 406 chances.  In addition, her 364 putouts are a new record as well.  Erica Marvaso has set a new assists mark with 122 this year.

More Records: Bre Megyesi has set a new mark with 166 at bats this season, breaking the old mark of 117 set by herself in 2014 and Chelsea Goebel in 2013.  In addition, her 43 runs scored bettered Alyssa Schaub's (2014 and 2015) old single season mark.  Megyesi has also set a new school hits record with 56 this season, while Mosiniak has shattered the doubles mark with 19.  Schaub held the hits mark with 40 while Megyesi had the old doubles record with 11.  Mosiniak has also tied Megyesi's home run mark from 2013 with six and her 40 runs batted in bettered Megyesi's mark of 36 set in 2014.  Mosiniak, Megyesi, and Erica Marvaso have played in all 46 games this year as well, breaking the school record for games played in a season.

This and That: Lourdes had never played more than 40 games in a season prior to this year ... the Gray Wolves played their first game in February (Feb. 28) for the first time ever this season, and are playing later than they ever have (previously May 2) ... Lourdes is 2-7 all-time in extra inning games ... Bre Megyesi, Megan Mosiniak, Brittany Potts, Haley Roberts, and Hillary West are the first four-year players in program history ... Megyesi and Taylor Genzman enter the tournament with five-game hitting streaks ... Megyesi and Mosiniak each have 17 multi-hit games this year.
