Tanner Jaramillo (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) scored the game-winning goal as time expired on Monday afternoon, lifting Lourdes to an 11-10 victory over Minnesota-Duluth in the first round of the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association tournament held in Irvine, Calif.
Casey Hilfinger (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) was behind the cage as time was winding down, and threaded a pass out front to Jaramillo, who fired a shot just before the horn sounded for his second tally of the game.
After leading 5-2 at halftime, Lourdes found itself behind 7-6 heading into the final quarter, but rallied for the late game heroics.
"Today was a tremendous team effort and the type of victory that will resonate into next season," head coach
Patrick Yannarelli said after the game. "The game went back and forth and the guys didn't lose focus. We watched the young wolves mature today and we can't be more proud. The seniors lead the guys all day and kept them relaxed in the tough times."
Jared Yoshino (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.) led the Gray Wolves with seven points, scoring three times while handing out four assists.
Dalton Vowles (Toledo, Ohio/Saint John's H.S.) added two goals and two assists while
Danny Bichsel (Westerville, Ohio/North H.S.) tallied two goals and a helper. Hilfinger and
Dylan Gill (Holland, Ohio/Saint Francis H.S.) also scored for Lourdes in the win, with Hilfinger and
Jaafar Ismail (Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Hills H.S.) each adding an assist as well.
