A pair of goals just 2:30 apart late in the first half proved to be the only offense Taylor needed on Tuesday afternoon as the Trojans defeated Lourdes 2-0 at Turner Stadium in Upland, Ind.
Â
With the match scoreless as the clock moved under 11 minutes in the opening half, Hannah Davis scored on a cross from Bailey Zehr inside the box to put the Trojans on the scoreboard. Zehr added to the lead with 8:27 to play before halftime, firing a shot into the upper right corner of the goal from outside of 20 yards, putting Taylor in front 2-0 at the break.
Â
Neither team would find the back of the net over the final 53 minutes of the contest, but Taylor (6-0) outshot Lourdes 16-4 on the evening, including an 11-3 edge in shots on goal.Â
Karlie O'Keefe (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) had two of the Gray Wolves' three shots on frame.
Â
"Even though the result wasn't what we wanted, we saw some underclassmen step up in big ways today," head coach
Jackie Donovan stated after the match. "We will look to get better tomorrow and continue building upon our game."
Â
Kiley Transit (Royal Oak, Mich./Royal Oak H.S.) made eight saves in goal for Lourdes while Lauren Engelkes made two first half stops and Lauren Cammarano made another save in the second half for the Trojans. Taylor also held a 13-0 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
Â
Lourdes (2-3) will look to rebound on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Rochester (Mich.) in the team's final non-conference match of the season. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
