A pair of second half goals, one by Lourdes and the other by Rochester (Mich.) on Saturday afternoon led to a 1-1 double-overtime draw between the Gray Wolves and Warriors at Wildcat Stadium.
Â
The draw marks the second straight season the teams have battled for 110 minutes without determining a winner, and Rochester is the only team the Gray Wolves have ever tied a match with in program history.
Â
The two sides played a scoreless opening 45 minutes in which Lourdes held an 8-2 shot advantage and registered the only two shots on goal.
Â
Lourdes took the lead 13:19 into the second half. After a service into the box was punched away by Warrior keeper Barbara Bronco-Lazarini,
Lana Bell (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) fired a shot from 30 yards out to the far post, putting the Gray Wolves in front 1-0.
Â
Rochester (3-3-3) would tie the match with 15:49 remaining as Sarah Economeas tapped in her own rebound after
Kiley Transit (Royal Oak, Mich./Royal Oak H.S.) made the initial save.
Â
Neither team would find the back of the net over the extra 20 minutes, as Bronco-Lazarini made two saves in the first extra period, finishing the match with eight stops. Transit made her only overtime save in the second extra session and finished the match with three saves.
Â
Lourdes finished with an 18-9 shot advantage, including a 9-4 edge on frame. The Warriors had five corner opportunities while the Gray Wolves had just two.
Â
Lourdes (2-3-1) will remain home at Wildcat Stadium next Saturday afternoon, opening Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play against Davenport. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
