For the third straight match Lourdes lit up the scoreboard with at least nine goals as the Gray Wolves defeated Cincinnati-Clermont 10-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Voice of America Park in West Chester, Ohio.
Â
The Gray Wolves outshot the Cougars 45-5 for the match, including a 25-3 advantage in shots on frame.
Â
"I was really pleased with our midfield today," head coach
Barry Spitzer said afterwards. "The team did a great job of working together to create opportunities."
Â
Lourdes had to play from behind for the first time this season as Cincinnati-Clermont found the back of the net less than six minutes into the match as Muhammed Erden took advantage of a Gray Wolf turnover in the box to put the Cougars in front 1-0.
Â
Isamnia Cohen (Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica/Manchester H.S.) tied the match in the 17
th minute, heading in a corner kick from
Jake Kirchoff-Sleet (Tamworth, England/Queen Elizabeth's Mercian H.S.). Less than seven minutes later,
Akilla Arno (Omaha, Neb./Northwest Magnet H.S.) scored what would be the match-winner with his shot from outside of 20 yards that beat goalkeeper Matthew Noland.
Â
The match remained 2-1 until late in the opening stanza when Lourdes would add two quick goals before intermission. Cohen scored his second tally of the match before
Demaro Fowler (Montego Bay, Jamaica/Cornwall College) added a goal with less than a minute remaining in the half.
Â
Kirchoff-Sleet made it 5-1 Gray Wolves early in the second half, tapping in a rebound of a
Judah Goodridge (Brooklyn, N.Y./Dutchtown H.S.) shot less than three minutes into the period.
Â
Fowler headed home his second goal of the match off of a corner from
Josh Patta (Wolfsburg, Germany/Signal Mountain H.S.) and
Chuk Moses (Woodford Green, England/Rushcroft Foundation H.S.) added a goal to increase the lead to six.
Â
Kevin Omore (Abidjan, Ivory Coast/Saint Jean Bosco and Farandole Internationale H.S.) and
Christian Massey (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) added late goals before Fowler completed his hat trick with a goal inside of five minutes. For Massey, the tally was his first collegiate goal.
Â
Andre White (Montego Bay, Jamaica/Cornwall College) made two second half saves for Lourdes, the only stops for Gray Wolf keepers on the afternoon. Noland made 15 saves for Cincinnati-Clermont (0-3) in the loss.
Â
Lourdes (4-0) will close out the non-conference portion of its schedule on Sunday afternoon as the Gray Wolves head to Howell, Mich. to face Cleary. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Page Field.
