In the first of two straight matches against an NAIA top-10 opponent, fourth-ranked Lourdes scored a 25-22, 25-19, 25-21 victory over eighth-ranked Saint Ambrose on Friday night inside of Lee Lohman Arena in Davenport, Iowa.
 
"We played well tonight," head coach 
Greg Reitz said afterwards.  "It was good to get the win against a quality program in their gym."
 
Lourdes hit .220 on the night with 38 kills, led by 10 from 
Ryan Maune (Washington, Mo./Saint Francis Borgia H.S.), who swung at a .500 clip for the night.  The Gray Wolves limited Saint Ambrose to a .140 hitting night, outdigging the Fighting Bees 48-28.  Lourdes also committed just six service errors while the hosts committed 14 errors on the serve.
 
"We served tough without missing too many," Reitz added.  "We hit pretty efficiently as well which helped us earn the quality win."
 
The opening set had 14 ties, the last of which came at 20-20, before Lourdes took the lead for good, scoring four of the next five points.  After trailing 12-11 in the second, Lourdes went on a 5-2 run to retake the lead, and closed the set scoring six of the final eight points.  The Gray Wolves never trailed in the third, holding the Fighting Bees to just a .087 hitting mark.  Lourdes jumped out to a 12-4 lead and withstood a late Saint Ambrose run, as the hosts closed to within two, 20-18, late in the match.
 
Colby Magorien (Agoura Hills, Calif./Westlake H.S.) had nine kills and 
Eric Ubior (Guaynabo, P.R./Wesleyan Academy) added eight more for the Gray Wolves.  
Zachary Hawkins (Dickinson, Texas/Dickinson H.S.) chipped in seven more kills as part of a balanced offensive attack.  
Ian Fields (Phoenix Ariz./Sandra Day O'Connor H.S.) handed out 16 assists while 
Ryan Ferkel (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly H.S.) registered 14 more.
 
Defensively, 
CJ Rilveria (Kula, Hawaii/Kekaulike H.S.) registered 16 digs while Maune had four blocks, including two of the solo variety.
 
Scott MacGillis led Saint Ambrose (0-2) with 15 kills and hit .387 while defensively David Berglind had a team-high 10 digs.
 
Lourdes (2-0) will close out its season-opening road trip on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Dubuque, Iowa to face seventh-ranked Clarke.  The opening serve is set for 2 p.m. EST at the Kehl Center.
