Lourdes began its final homestand of the 2017 season on Tuesday afternoon, dropping a 3-0 match to Cornerstone at Wildcat Stadium.
Â
The Golden Eagles found the back of the net for the first time with 11:29 remaining before intermission as Tori Johns picked up a loose ball near the top of the box, and fired far post, for what proved to be the match-winning goal.
Â
Kelsey Gensler added to Cornerstone's lead midway through the second half. Morgan Haddad played a ball ahead to Gesler, who shot from the left side of the box to the far post for her first goal of the season. The Golden Eagles added one final tally with 12:16 to play, as Savannah Petty's free kick from 20 yards out found the left side of the goal.
Â
Cornerstone (7-5-2, 3-3-1 WHAC) finished the match with a 15-9 shot advantage for the contest, including an 11-5 edge on net. The Golden Eagles also had six corner kick opportunities in the match while limiting the Gray Wolves to just two.
Â
Kerstyn Williams (Taylor, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) made eight saves in goal for Lourdes in the setback while Mikayla Johnson made five stops for the Golden Eagles.
Â
Offensively,
Clare Ciarlino (Taylor, Mich./Truman H.S.) had four of the Gray Wolves' nine shot attempts, and was the only Lourdes player with more than one.
