Lourdes had its 28-match home win streak against Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foes snapped on Wednesday evening, as 18^th-ranked Cornerstone defeated the Gray Wolves 25-19, 25-20, 25-18 inside of the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
 
The loss was the first since Lourdes fell to Northwestern Ohio on Nov. 1, 2014 at Tam-o-Shanter, and the Gray Wolves first ever against a conference opponent inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
 
"We haven't played well enough to beat a good opponent," head coach Greg Reitz said after the match.  "We passed pretty well, but could not score points with our offense tonight."
 
The Golden Eagles limited Lourdes to just .023 hitting on the evening while registering 11 blocks in the match.  Cornerstone also outdug the Gray Wolves 62-51 for the evening.
 
Trailing 11-8 in the opening set, Lourdes scored five straight points, including a pair on service aces by Angelica Dippold (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy), to take a lead.  The Gray Wolves were in front 16-15 when Cornerstone scored eight of the next nine points to seize control on the way to winning set one.
 
Lourdes led most of set two until a 5-1 run by the visitors put Cornerstone in front for good 17-14.  The Golden Eagles added four straight points late to increase the advantage to 22-16 on the way to building a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
Cornerstone took the lead quickly in set three and Lourdes was never able to recover, swinging at a -.026 clip in the final stanza to drop the match.
 
Kristin Murrell (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) led Lourdes with nine kills and 12 digs while Dippold had 14 digs to lead the defensive effort.  Shannon Fischer (Toledo, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) added 10 digs for the Gray Wolves.
 
Kendra Zwart led Cornerstone (23-6, 12-1 WHAC) with 10 kills while Mackenzie Vallad registered a match-high 20 digs.
 
Lourdes (18-9, 9-4) will take to the road for the final time in the regular season on Saturday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to face Aquinas.  First serve is set for 1 p.m. inside the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center.
