Lourdes saw its 2017 men's soccer season come to a close on Saturday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves suffered a 5-0 setback to Concordia (Mich.) on Senior Day at Wildcat Stadium.
The Gray Wolves held a 10-4 shot advantage in the opening 45 minutes, including a 4-2 edge on goal, but Concordia scored the only goal of the half. After a foul in the penalty area, Charlie Miles converted the penalty kick to put the Cardinals in front 1-0 just 3:29 into the match.
The match stayed a one-goal contest until the 69
th minute, when the Cardinals drew yet another foul in the box. Again, Miles stepped up and converted the penalty kick, giving the guest a 2-0 advantage.
Concordia would score three more times in less than 11 minutes to put the match out of reach. Anthony Tucker dribbled down the left side of the field, and scored far post in the 73
rd minute before Nathan Bergenson added a pair of goals less than five minutes apart to conclude the scoring.
The Cardinals outshot Lourdes 10-2 in the final half to finish with a 14-12 edge for the match. Concordia also held a 6-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
Jose Cedillo (Monterrey, Mexico/Norcross H.S.) made three saves in goal for Lourdes while Marino Moracinni made five stops for Concordia (10-8, 5-6) in net.
Lourdes finishes the 2017 season 5-10-1 overall and 3-8 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, finishing in 10
th place overall.
