Lourdes shot better than 50% from the floor on Friday evening against Governors State, but the Jaguars forced 24 turnovers to defeat the Gray Wolves 74-59 in the opening game of the Lancer Tipoff Classic hosted by Grace inside of Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center in Winona Lake, Ind.

Governors State turned the Gray Wolf miscues into 28 points and shot 50% itself, and pulled away in the second half after leading by just two, 33-31, at the half.

"We haven't had the right energy in practice this week and unfortunately that carried over into the game as it often does," head coach
Josh Gibson said after the contest. "We weren't ready to go and didn't do a good job of handling their pressure. I have to do a better job of preparing us to play and demanding our best on a daily basis."

An early 8-0 run by the Gray Wolves put Lourdes in front 18-10 midway through the opening half. Governors State responded with a 9-2 spurt over the next two minutes to pull within one, before taking the lead, 24-22, with 5:50 to play before the break. Lourdes kept the game close, leading by one in the final minute of the stanza before a Jaguars three-pointer with 36 seconds remaining allowed Governors State to take a 33-31 lead into the locker room.

Another triple to start the second half put Governors State in front by four, and the Jaguars would not trail the rest of the night. Eight straight points pushed the lead to double figures, 51-40, with just over 12 minutes to play and Governors State eventually built the lead to as many as 19, 72-53, with just under four minutes remaining in the contest.

Darriontae Stewart (Cleveland, Ohio/Rhodes H.S.) led Lourdes with nine points as the Gray Wolves failed to produce a double figure scorer on the night. Thirteen different players found the scoring column, with
McRay White (Cleveland, Ohio/Garfield Heights H.S.) adding eight points.

McRay also led Lourdes on the glass with five rebounds as the Gray Wolves finished with a 30-25 advantage on the boards for the night.

Robbie Brooks led Governors State (2-1) with 22 points while Shane Maple added 18 more. David Anderson had 13 points and a game-high nine boards for the Jaguars.

Lourdes (1-1) will close out action in the Lancer Tipoff Classic on Saturday morning as the Gray Wolves face Judson. Tipoff is set for 11 a.m.
