Playing in the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center for the first time in program history, seventh-ranked Lourdes opened the home portion of the 2017 slate on Wednesday defeating Siena Heights in four sets, 22-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-20.

"We didn't have the cleanest of starts, but we came around as the match went along," head coach
Greg Reitz said afterwards. "We did a good job of putting some pressure on them with our serve in the final three sets and did a really nice job of distributing the ball tonight."

Five straight points, including three service aces, allowed Siena Heights to take the lead early in the opening set, and the Saints would not relinquish the advantage. The Gray Wolves trailed by as many as six, 24-18, and fought off four set points before the visitors finally closed the stanza.

There were eight ties and four lead changes in the second before a 5-1 run by the Gray Wolves midway through put the hosts in front for good, 15-11. After hitting just .031 in set one, Lourdes committing just two errors in the second while swinging at a .500 clip on the way to evening the match.

Lourdes never trailed in the third or fourth sets, despite combining for 19 hitting errors over the two stanzas. A 6-1 run early in the third helped Lourdes gain momentum to take the lead in the match and eight straight points in the fourth off of the service of
Ian Fields (Phoenix, Ariz./Sandra Day O'Connor H.S.) helped turn a 14-13 lead into a 22-13 advantage as the Gray Wolves closed out the match.

Ryan Maune (Washington, Mo./Saint Francis Borgia H.S.) led Lourdes with 15 kills and hit .538, committing just one error on the night. He also had six blocks, including three solo stuffs.Â
Zachary Hawkins (Dickinson, Texas/Dickinson H.S.) and
Colby Magorien (Agoura Hills, Calif./Westlake H.S.) each had double-doubles. Hawkins had 13 kills and 12 digs along with five blocks while Magorien tallied 13 kills and 13 digs.

Evan Gebert (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider H.S.) added 11 kills while Fields handed out 52 assists in the victory.Â
CJ Rilveria (Kula, Hawaii/Kekaulike H.S.) registered a match-high 25 digs as the Gray Wolves held a 76-54 advantage in that category.

Matthew Dugan led Siena Heights (5-1) with 14 kills and 13 digs as the Saints hit just .109 as a team for the match.

Lourdes (3-1) will head to the Moulten Invitational hosted by Grand View this Friday and Saturday. The Gray Wolves will battle fourth-ranked Missouri Baptist beginning at 2 p.m. EST on Friday before facing 10
th-ranked Hope International later that evening at 8 p.m. EST inside of the Charles S. Johnson Wellness Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
