Lourdes saw its three-game win streak come to an end on Saturday evening as the Gray Wolves closed out their 2016-2017 season with a 71-61 loss to Siena Heights at the SHU Fieldhouse in Adrian, Mich.
Â
Najeeb Johnson (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights H.S.) and
Levert Bristol (Dothan, Ala./Northview H.S.) closed out their careers on a positive note, scoring 20 and 19 points respectively as the two lone Gray Wolves to finish in double figures.
Â
The first half was close most of the way, with the Saints holding a slim 20-19 lead before scoring eight unanswered points to open up a nine-point advantage. Siena Heights would lead 32-23 heading into the break.
Â
The lead grew to 18, 48-30, with 13 minutes to play before Lourdes (7-22, 5-17 WHAC) battled back. Fourteen straight points allowed Lourdes to pull within four, 48-44, just four minutes later. However, Siena Heights would respond with a 15-4 run to push the lead back to 16, and the Gray Wolves were unable to cut its deficit to single digits the rest of the way.
Â
Lourdes shot nearly 47% from the floor while Siena Heights shot at a 50% clip, but the Gray Wolves were outrebounded 32-19, including 12-5 on the offensive end. The Saints capitalized, holding a 15-4 advantage in second chance points.
Â
Jerrell Martin led Siena Heights (16-14, 10-12) with 24 points while Josh Winowiecki added 17 points for the Saints.
Â
Johnson and Bristol joined
Daniel Steen (Wantirna South, Australia/Emmaus H.S.) and
Anthony Swanigan (Indianpolis, Ind./Pike H.S.) closing out their careers on Saturday night.
