Six straight goals to close out the first half proved to be more than enough for second-ranked Lourdes, as the Gray Wolves scored a 9-4 victory over third-ranked Reinhardt on Saturday at Ken White Field in Waleska, Ga.
Â
"Our leaders set the tone today from the first whistle and the rest of the team played their roles with enthusiasm," head coach
Patrick Yannarelli said afterwards. "This was a team win all the way around. We are now looking forward to getting back to the practice field and working."
Â
With the game tied at one, Lourdes scored two goals in the final two minutes of the first quarter and added four more in the second to build a 7-1 lead at halftime, and the Gray Wolves were able to play even with the Eagles in the second half.
Â
Jared Yoshino (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.),
D.J. Harris (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg H.S.), and
Drew Gilhooly (Livonia, Ohio/Detroit Catholic Central H.S.) each scored twice for Lourdes while
Dalton Vowles (Toledo, Ohio/Saint John's H.S.),
Tanner Jaramillo (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.), and
Casey Hilfinger (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) each found the back of the net as well.
Â
Conner Mishler (Lambertville, Mich./Saint John's H.S.) made 15 saves in the cage for the Gray Wolves, helping Lourdes remain undefeated.
Â
Chad Huffman was the only multi-goal scorer for Reinhardt (4-1), as the Eagles suffered their first loss of the season.
Â
Lourdes (4-0) will begin Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Friday afternoon, traveling to Livonia, Mich. to battle Madonna. The opening draw is set for 4 p.m. at the Madonna Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
