Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play opened on Saturday afternoon for Lourdes, and the Gray Wolves suffered an 18-3 setback to fourth-ranked Davenport at the DU Turf Field in Grand Rapids, Mich.

"The score doesn't reflect the excellence of some of our offensive and defensive play," head coach
Paul Sieben said afterwards. "We need to continue to improve our play over the whole game though, and not just portions of it."

The Panthers scored the first eight goals of the game before
Tiara Reed (Maumee, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) put Lourdes on the scoreboard with 13:25 to play in the opening half.

Davenport took a 10-1 lead into halftime and extended the lead to 11, 12-1, before
Alyssa Long (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn H.S.) and
Shelby Kellar (Holland, Ohio/Saint Ursula H.S.) scored back-to-back goals. The Panthers kept the Gray Wolves off the scoreboard for the final 15 minutes though, while adding to their lead.

Jessica Lemcke scored seven times to lead Davenport (2-1, 1-0 WHAC), as the Panthers outshot the Gray Wolves 25-16 for the contest.Â

Hannah Cullis (Fort Worth, Texas/Central H.S.) led Lourdes with five ground balls and caused five turnovers while
Mary Tressel (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls H.S.) added four ground balls and forced four miscues.

Lourdes (1-3, 0-1) will close out its trip to Grand Rapids on Sunday evening, traveling to Aquinas. The opening draw is set for 5 p.m. at the Aquinas Athletic Field.
