Lourdes wrapped up a five-game road trip on Sunday evening, suffering a 14-6 loss to Aquinas at the Aquinas Athletic Field in Grand Rapids, Mich.
The Gray Wolves took the early lead on goals by
Alyssa Long (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn H.S.) and
Tiara Reed (Maumee, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) just under 10 minutes into the game. The Saints responded with the next six goals before Long found the back of the cage again, but Aquinas scored twice more before intermission, taking an 8-3 lead into the break.
After the Aquinas lead grew to 12-3, Lourdes was able to score three times in the final 12 minutes. Long added her third goal of the day while
Ashley Hunt (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May H.S.) and
Anna Marie Weber (North Canton, Ohio/Jackson H.S.) each added a tally as well.
Aquinas (2-3, 1-2 WHAC) outshot Lourdes 33-20 for the afternoon and held a 36-14 edge in ground balls. Anna Curcuru scored six times to pace the Saints.
"We will study our loss today and learn from it," head coach
Paul Sieben said after the game.
Lourdes (1-4, 0-2) will open the home portion of its schedule on Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Siena Heights. The opening draw is set for 3 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
