Cumberland pitching limited Lourdes to just one hit on Saturday afternoon, as the Phoenix defeated the Gray Wolves 7-1 at Woody Hunt Stadium to wrap up a two-game weekend series in Lebanon, Tenn.
 
The Gray Wolves' lone hit came in the sixth as Dallas Riggs (Prescott, Ariz./Paradise Valley H.S.) hit a two-run home run to account for Lourdes' only tally.  For the junior, it was his second round-tripper of the season.
 
Cumberland jumped in front in the opening inning with a two-out double to center to plate the game's first run.  The Phoenix added to the lead in the fourth, scoring six times, only four of which were earned, as 10 batters came to the plate.
 
Lourdes would keep Cumberland off of the scoreboard the rest of the way, but were unable to produce the offense needed to rally.
 
"Today was an example of why you can't give free base runners," head coach Jeremy Snow said afterwards. 
 
Lourdes surrendered just seven hits but walked six batters.
 
"Yesterday we were able to wiggly out of trouble, but today they made us pay," Snow added.  "Offensively we had bad at bats and an over-aggressive approach all day.  Their pitchers did a great job using that against us.  As always, the key to our team is going to be a quality approach at the plate and timely hitting.  We had neither today."
 
Sam Eichler earned the win (1-0) for the Phoenix, allowing just the one run and hit while walking three in six innings.  Ben Richard (Maumee, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) suffered the loss (0-2), surrendering four runs and four hits while walking six in three innings.
 
Austin Krajnak led Cumberland (10-9) with a 2-for-2 effort at the plate.
 
Lourdes (2-9) will have Sunday off before beginning a four-game series against Indiana Wesleyan at the Perfect Game Complex in Cartersville, Ga.  First pitch in Monday's opener is set for 1 p.m.
