Lourdes Falls in Double-Overtime to Columbia (S.C.) in Season Opener

A goal with 48 seconds remaining in the second overtime period allowed sixth-ranked Columbia (S.C.) to defeat Lourdes 12-11 on Tuesday afternoon at Gyrene Field in Ave Maria, Fla. in the Gray Wolves' season opener.

Lourdes battled back after trailing 7-3 at halftime, including a 5-0 deficit to start the game.  The Gray Wolves were still behind by four, 11-7, with under eight minutes to play when Alyssa Long (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn H.S.) scored three times, including the game-tying tally with 3:41 to play, with Tiara Reed (Maumee, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) added a goal during the late run.

After a scoreless first three-minute overtime period, Kendra Blackstock delivered the game-winner for the Koalas.

Long finished the game with seven goals, surpassing the 100-goal mark for her career.  Reed added a pair of goals while Shelby Kellar (Holland, Ohio/Saint Ursula H.S.) and Anna Zofchak (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover H.S.) each found the back of the cage.

"Tiara played a strong game, scoring her first goals while doing a solid job with ground balls," head coach Paul Sieben said.

Kiley Ketteman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson H.S.) made 16 saves in goal for the Gray Wolves, while Mary Tressel (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls H.S.) collected five ground balls.

"We got outstanding play in goal from Kiley today," Sieben added.  "She made one good save after another.  Mary Tressel played an outstanding game defensively as well."

Devan Walter led Columbia (3-2) with four goals while Diamond Brown made 17 saves for the Koalas.

Lourdes (0-1) will return to Gyrene Field on Wednesday to battle host Ave Maria.  The opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
