Lourdes suffered a pair of defeats on Thursday, returning to the diamond after an off day, falling to seventh-ranked Marian 10-2 before dropping a 7-5 decision to Trinity Christian in the final inning at Hancock Park.
Â
In the opener against the Knights, Marian scored a run in the opening inning, only to see the Gray Wolves answer in the top of the second as
Taylor Tafelski (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) laced a home run over the centerfield fence.
Â
Marian retook the lead with an unearned run in the second, but again Lourdes answered.Â
Olivia Stanton (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland H.S.) singled to score
Taylor Genzman (Saint Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview H.S.), tying the game at two.
Â
The Knights plated eight runs in the bottom of the third on seven hits and Marian's hurlers were able to keep Lourdes off of the scoreboard the rest of the way.
Â
Cassie Perry earned the win (1-0) for Marian (6-0), surrendering five of the Gray Wolves' six hits in four innings of work.Â
Lexi Buck (Holland, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) suffered the loss (0-1), allowing eight runs, seven earned, and eight hits in two innings plus.
Â
Lourdes scored first in the second game against Trinity Christian, as Tafelski and
Marissa Kostick (Saint Charles, Mich./Saint Charles H.S.) delivered RBI hits.
Â
The Trolls answered with five runs in the second, four of which were unearned following a two-out error, and maintained the lead into the sixth, as
Samantha Shirling (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood H.S.) came on in relief, scattering just three hits over the next four frames.
Â
Trailing 5-2 in the sixth,
Paige Churchfield (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley H.S.) hit her first collegiate home run, a three-run blast to the opposite field in left, tying the game.
Â
Trinity Christian (3-4) manufactured a pair of runs in the seventh though, to pull out the win.
Â
Dara Megyesi earned the complete game win for the Trolls, allowing seven Lourdes hits while walking four and striking out three. Shirling took the loss (0-2), giving up the two seventh inning runs.
Â
Lourdes (2-6) will return to Hancock Park on Friday morning as the Gray Wolves will face Saint Francis (Ind.) in a doubleheader. First pitch in game one is set for 8 a.m.
