Tiara Reed's (Maumee, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) goal with 1:05 remaining in overtime gave Lourdes a 13-12 victory over Keiser on Thursday afternoon at Arrigo Vecellio Field in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Reed's goal was her fourth of the day, and helped the Gray Wolves overcome a halftime deficit. With Lourdes trailing 8-7 at the break, the Gray Wolves scored four straight goals to tie the game, and maintained an advantage most of the second half until the Seahawks tied the contest with 2:19 to play to force the extra period.
"This was a fantastic team effort," head coach
Paul Sieben said afterwards. "We were able to overcome adversity and multiple lead changes to win. The freshmen and upperclassmen came together as one team today and showed the power of a cohesive unit. We had balance on defense and offense, a great deal of which does not show in the stats."
Alyssa Long (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn H.S.) and
Shelby Kellar (Holland, Ohio/Saint Ursula H.S) each added three goals for the Gray Wolves while
Anna Marie Weber (North Canton, Ohio/Jackson H.S.) was able to find the back of the cage twice.
Ashley Hunt (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May H.S.) added a goal as well for the Gray Wolves.
Kiley Ketteman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson H.S.) made eight saves in goal for Lourdes while
Mary Tressel (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls H.S.) collected eight ground balls and caused five turnovers.
Keiser held a slim 31-29 shot advantage but the Gray Wolves held the ground ball edge 32-26.
Tabetha Fike scored three times to pace Keiser's (0-6) offense while Frankie Parshall had seven ground balls.
Lourdes (1-2) will open the home portion of its schedule on Wednesday afternoon, as Madonna visits Wildcat Stadium for the Gray Wolves' home opener. The opening draw is slated for 4 p.m.
