Six straight goals by Indiana Tech in a 12-minutes span during the first half proved to be more than enough for the Warriors as they defeated Lourdes 19-9 on Wednesday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium.
Â
"We showed some exceptional play at times on both ends of the field," head coach
Paul Sieben said after the game. "We need to develop consistency of play throughout 60 minutes though if we want to defeat ranked teams."
Â
The fourth-ranked Warriors scored just 20 seconds into the game, but Lourdes responded, as
Alyssa Long (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn H.S.) tied the game just over three minutes later with her first of six goals on the day.
Â
The Warriors took the lead for good with 25:03 remaining in the first half on a goal by McKenna Mesclier, the first of six unanswered goals for Indiana Tech.
Â
Anna Zofchak (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover H.S.) snapped the run with 9:29 to play in the half, one of two goals for her on the afternoon. The Gray Wolves played even the rest of the stanza, and went into the break trailing 10-4.
Â
Indiana Tech (12-3, 8-3 WHAC) scored the first three goals of the second half to extend the lead to nine, 13-4, before
Anna Marie Weber (North Canton, Ohio/Jackson H.S.) found the back of the cage, and to pull within eight, but that would be as close as the Gray Wolves would get the rest of the way.
Â
Heidi Tremaine led Indiana Tech with five goals as the Warriors outshot Lourdes 35-23 on the afternoon. The Warriors also held a 23-14 advantage in ground balls.
Â
Mary Tressel (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls H.S.) led Lourdes with six draw controls while
Tiara Reed (Maumee, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) collected three draw controls.Â
Kiley Ketteman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson H.S.) had nine saves in goal for the Gray Wolves.
Â
Lourdes (4-8, 3-6) will take to the road on Saturday afternoon, heading to Adrian, Mich. to play ninth-ranked Siena Heights. The opening draw is slated for 2 p.m. at O'Laughlin Stadium.
