Upcoming in Gray Wolves Softball: The penultimate weekend of the 2017 softball season has arrived. The Gray Wolves have a pair of key Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contests this weekend, beginning on Saturday when Lourdes hosts Siena Heights. Lourdes then heads to Grand Rapids, Mich. on Sunday for a twinbill at eighth-ranked Davenport.
Head Coach Jo Ann Gordon: In her fifth season on the Lourdes bench,
Jo Ann Gordon has a 64-122 (.344) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In her 15th season overall as a head softball coach, Gordon has a 216-410 (.345) career mark. She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Siena Heights leads the all-time series against Lourdes 6-5 dating back to April 21, 2013. The Gray Wolves won two of three against the Saints last season. The two teams split a doubleheader in Adrian, Mich. during the regular season, with Siena Heights winning the opener 12-11 before Lourdes won the nightcap 10-4. The Gray Wolves then eliminated the Saints from the WHAC tournament with a 12-6 victory. Lourdes holds a 3-2 series edge in games played at Pacesetter Park. Davenport is 11-0 all-time against Lourdes dating back to April 7, 2013 and won all four meetings last year. The Panthers were 3-2 and 5-4 winners in Grand Rapids, Mich. during the regular season before defeating the Gray Wolves 5-0 and 6-1 in the WHAC tournament. Davenport is 4-0 all-time against Lourdes in Grand Rapids.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes dropped a doubleheader last Wednesday (April 12) at Northwestern Ohio, falling 4-2 and 6-1. The Gray Wolves then suffered a pair of 9-1 setbacks to Michigan-Dearborn on Friday in Ann Arbor, Mich. Upon returning home Saturday, Lourdes fell in the opener to Indiana Tech 5-3 before rebounding for an 8-0 victory in game two as
Olivia Stanton went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in. Monday swept a doubleheader at Cleary, winning the opener 4-2 after scoring a pair of runs in the seventh. In game two, the Gray Wolves rallied with three in the seventh to score a 6-4 win as
Marissa Kostick went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Tuesday at Hillsdale, the Chargers walked off with a 5-4 win in game one before earning a 5-3 victory in game two.

Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints have won three consecutive games after sweeping a doubleheader from Lawrence Tech last Saturday. Kyndle Wolfinger leads Siena Heights batting .422 on the year while Kenya Keller is hitting .437 with two home runs and 34 runs batted in. As a team the Saints are hitting .324 while the pitching staff sports a 2.90 earned run average. Lindsay Brandon leads the hurlers with a 6-3 record and a 2.64 ERA.
Scouting Davenport: The Panthers enter the weekend having split a doubleheader on Wednesday with Lawrence Tech. Davenport hosts Indiana Tech on Saturday before entertaining Lourdes. Alexa Flores leads the Panthers batting .412 with six home runs and 36 runs batted in. As a team, Davenport is hitting .314 while the pitching staff sports a 1.60 earned run average and has limited opposing hitters to a .207 clip. Mallory Teunissen is 16-4 in the circle with a 1.34 ERA.
Schedule Update: The doubleheader against Cornerstone that was postponed on March 31 has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 27 beginning at 3:30 p.m. The twinbill at Aquinas slated for April 5 has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 26 beginning at 3:30 p.m. Lourdes will not make up the games that were cancelled on Thursday at Saginaw Valley State.
Genzman Continues to Produce Multi-Hit Games: Taylor Genzman had a two-hit game against both Cleary and Hillsdale this week, and now has a team-leading 11 multi-hit contests on the year. The sophomore shortstop leads the Gray Wolves batting .361 on the season.
Going Deep: Marissa Kostick hit her first two home runs of the season, and of her career, in the second game of the doubleheader at Cleary on Monday.Â
Meghan Birr tallied her second homer of the year in the opener of the twinbill. Birr's first home run this season was of the inside-the-park variety, but the one against the Cougars cleared the wall.
Taking the RBI Lead: Taylor Tafelski had a RBI Hillsdale and two against Indiana Tech, one in each game, to take the team lead with 16 runs batted in on the season.Â

Stability in the Middle Infield: Taylor Genzman and
Kayla Encalado have started every game this season in the middle infield for the Gray Wolves, the only two players to have appeared in all 32 contests. Genzman has started 30 games at shortstop, one at second base, and one at designated player while Encalado has begun 30 games at second and two at shortstop.
