Lourdes wrapped up its weekend on Sunday, dropping a doubleheader to eighth-ranked Davenport 8-3 and 10-2 at Farmers Athletics Complex in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Â
The Gray Wolves struck first in the opener as
Kayla Encalado (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) delivered a two-run double in the top of the third.
Â
Davenport responded with three unearned runs in the bottom of the inning and added three more runs one inning later.
Â
Lourdes pulled to within 6-3 in the top of the sixth as
Brooke Gallaher (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) singled home
Kelsey Beck (Paulding, Ohio/Paulding H.S.), but that would be the last run the Gray Wolves would score.
Â
The Panthers tacked on two more runs in the sixth to complete the scoring.
Â
The Gray Wolves had 11 hits in the game, including two by Beck,
Meghan Birr (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores H.S.), and
Olivia Stanton (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland H.S.), but left eight runners on base in the game.
Â
Gallaher suffered the loss (3-9) in the circle, allowing six runs, only three of which were earned, and six hits in 3.2 innings of work. Emily Maves tossed a complete game to earn the win (16-2), striking out six.
Â
In game two Davenport scored a run in the opening inning, but the Gray Wolves responded, tying the game in the second.Â
Paige Churchfield (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley H.S.) drew a bases loaded walk that scored Beck, but Lourdes stranded three in the inning.
Â
A three-run double in the third by Alexa Flores, who went 4-for-4 with four runs batted in, gave Davenport (36-6, 14-4 WHAC) a 4-1 lead and the Panthers added a run on a wild pitch in the fourth. A three-run fifth increased the advantage to seven.
Â
Beck hit her second home run of the season to lead off the sixth, but the Panthers answered with two in the bottom of the inning to close out the game.
Â
Encalado and Beck each had two hits in the nightcap as Lourdes managed just six against Danielle Koenen, who tossed a complete game to get the win (3-0).Â
Marissa Kostick (Saint Charles, Mich./Saint Charles H.S.) suffered the loss (5-8), allowing eight runs and 12 hits in 4.2 innings of work.
Â
Lourdes (11-25, 3-13) returns to Grand Rapids on Wednesday to face Aquinas in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. at Gainey Athletic Facility.
