Upcoming in Gray Wolves Softball: The 2017 season comes to a close this week as the Gray Wolves play three doubleheaders.  Lourdes takes to the road for the final time on Tuesday, heading to Aquinas for a doubleheader.  The Gray Wolves return to Pacesetter Park on Wednesday to close WHAC play against Cornerstone before hosting Cardinal Stritch on Sunday afternoon for Senior Day.

Head Coach Jo Ann Gordon: In her fifth season on the Lourdes bench, Jo Ann Gordon has a 65-125 (.342) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  In her 15th season overall as a head softball coach, Gordon has a 217-413 (.344) career mark.  She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Aquinas leads the all-time series against Lourdes 5-4 dating back to April 26, 2013.  Last season the Gray Wolves swept a doubleheader in Grand Rapids, Mich. 1-0 and 15-2.  All-time, the series is tied 2-2 in Grand Rapids.  Cornerstone leads the all-time series with the Gray Wolves 6-4 dating back to March 4, 2013.  Last year the two teams split their regular season meetings at Pacesetter Park with the Gray Wolves winning the opener 5-4 before the Golden Eagles took game two 8-1.  Lourdes won the rubber match 2-1 in the WHAC tournament.  All-time Cornerstone holds a 3-2 edge in games at Pacesetter Park.  Cardinal Stritch won the only previous meeting against Lourdes, 4-3, earlier this season on March 6 in Clermont, Fla.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes split a doubleheader on Saturday with Siena Heights.  The Gray Wolves jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the opener before the Saints rallied for a 13-8 victory.  In game two, Marissa Kostick delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh as the Gray Wolves posted an 8-7 win at home.  On Sunday, Lourdes was swept on the road in a doubleheader at eighth-ranked Davenport.  The Panthers won the opener 8-3 before taking the nightcap 10-2.

Scouting Aquinas: The Saints have dropped six straight games after losing both ends of a doubleheader at home against Northwestern Ohio on Sunday 8-1 and 3-0.  Ann Hardin leads the team batting .361 with 28 runs batted in.  As a team, Aquinas is hitting .295 while the pitching staff sports a 2.21 earned run average and opponents are hitting .259 against them.  Mandy Rosol leads the staff with an 11-5 record and a 1.87 ERA.

Scouting Cornerstone: The Golden Eagles snapped a four-game losing streak on Saturday, downing Indiana Tech 4-3 in a makeup contest.  Lexi Lieske leads the Golden Eagles batting .351 with 12 runs batted in.  Cornerstone is hitting .230 as a team while the pitching staff sports a 4.62 earned run average.  Brooke Leonard is 5-10 with a 3.37 ERA.

Scouting Cardinal Stritch: The Wolves enter the week having dropped three straight games after falling in a doubleheader to Lindenwood-Belleville on Sunday.  Cardinal Stritch faces Saint Xavier, Robert Morris (Ill.), and Siena Heights prior to visiting Lourdes.  Cindy Garcese leads the team batting .406 with 38 runs batted in on a squad that is hitting .336 overall.  Fatime Sino leads the pitching staff with a 9-8 record and 2.79 ERA for a team that has a 3.51 ERA overall.

Schedule Update: Both midweek doubleheaders have been moved up one day.  The makeup games at Aquinas will now be played on Tuesday while the home twinbill with Cornerstone is set to be played on Wednesday now.

Thanks Seniors: Lourdes will honor its three members of the 2017 senior class prior to Sunday's doubleheader with Cardinal Stritch.  Kayla Encalado, Erica Marvaso, and Marche' Venable will all be concluding their careers this season.

Beck and Encalado Have Big Weekends: Kelsey Beck and Kayla Encalado both had big weekends at the plate for the Gray Wolves.  Beck batted .533 (8-for-15) with a home run, three runs batted in, and five runs scored.  Encalado hit .500 (5-for-10) with five walks for a .688 on base percentage.  In addition, she drove home five runs and stole two bases.  Defensively, neither Beck nor Encalado committed an error.

Stealing Bases: Meghan Birr swiped three bases in last weekend's doubleheader and is now a perfect 13-for-13 on the season.  Her 13 steals rank her third on the school's single season list behind Alyssa Schaub's 21 steals in both 2014 and 2015.

Kostick Swinging a Hot Stick: Marissa Kostick has raised her average more than 100 points, to .315, since the second game of a doubleheader against Madonna on April 9.  Kostick is .422 (19-for-45) during the span and has hits in 13 of the 15 games.  She has also homered twice during the span, slugged .644 with four doubles, and driven in 10 runs.

Stability in the Middle Infield: Taylor Genzman and Kayla Encalado have started every game this season for the Gray Wolves, the only two players to have appeared in all 36 contests.  Genzman has started 34 games at shortstop, one at second base, and one at designated player while Encalado has begun 34 games at second and two at shortstop.

This and That: Kelsey Beck and Kayla Encalado have each walked a team-high 12 times ... Olivia Stanton has been hit by six pitches ... Taylor Genzman has scored 28 runs and leads the team with 40 hits.
