Lourdes wrapped up the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference portion of its schedule on Wednesday, sweeping a doubleheader from Cornerstone 5-3 and 16-0 at Pacesetter Park.
Â
"I am proud of the way we battled and fought back in the first game," head coach
Jo Ann Gordon said afterwards. "The second game was the epitome of us putting all three phases of the game together, which was the goal every time we step on the field."
Â
The Gray Wolves fell behind 3-0 in the opener after allowing an unearned run in the first and two more runs in the fifth.Â
Â
Lourdes batted around in the sixth, scoring five times to take the lead before holding on for the win. The first five batters of the inning reached on hits, including a two-run triple by
Kelsey Beck (Paulding, Ohio/Paulding H.S.) and a RBI single from
Olivia Stanton (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland H.S.).Â
Taylor Genzman's (Saint Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview H.S.) two-run single up the middle put the Gray Wolves in front for good.
Â
Genzman had three hits to pace Lourdes' 10-hit attack in the opener, which saw eight of the nine batters record hits in the contest.
Â
Brooke Gallaher (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) earned the win (4-10) in the circle, pitching two innings of scoreless relief. Brooke Leonard took the loss (5-11) in a complete game effort for the Golden Eagles.
Â
The Gray Wolves scored in all four of their plate appearances in the second game while ending the game early.Â
Marissa Kostick (Saint Charles, Mich./Saint Charles H.S.) registered her fourth shutout (6-9) of the season, scattering just three hits while striking out two in the circle.
Â
All nine starters had at least one hit in the game, with six registering multi-hit contests.Â
