Indiana Tech Rallies to Top Lourdes in Overtime

Photo Gallery

Indiana Tech scored a pair of second half goals and added the match-winner in double-overtime to rally from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Lourdes 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium.

Lourdes took the early lead less than 15 minutes into the match as Tori Koontz (Chesterfield, Mich./L'anse Crevse North H.S.) chipped a restart over the Warrior defense where Tara Blundell (Essexville, Mich./Garber H.S.) collected the ball in the penalty area and beat goalkeeper Christina Wynn to put the Gray Wolves in front 1-0.

The match stayed 1-0 into intermission before the Gray Wolves doubled their lead just 2:48 out of the break.  Koontz again started the play, sending it up the right side where Karlie O'Keefe (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) received the feed and found the back of the net.

Indiana Tech (6-4, 3-0 WHAC) found the scoreboard for the first time with 30:03 remaining and Tori Singstock slotted a ball across the box into the six where Kayla Saffran scored to pull the Warriors within one, 2-1.  With 10:19 remaining, Indiana Tech tied the contest as Marina Steffke sent a long cross from the left into the box where Lily Rothert got a head on the ball and converted.

The match remained deadlocked for the remainder of regulation and the first overtime, before Indiana Tech was fouled in the penalty area and Singstock converted a penalty kick with 3:33 remaining to give the Warriors the victory.

Indiana Tech outshot Lourdes 26-12 for the match, including 16-7 in the second half.  The Warriors also had the only two shots in the extra session.  The visitors also held an 8-4 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

Kerstyn Williams (Taylor, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) made seven saves in goal for the Gray Wolves while Christian Wynn made a pair of stops for Indiana Tech.

Lourdes (5-4-1, 1-2) will take to the road on Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves travel to Madonna.  Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at the Madonna Soccer & Lacrosse Field in Livonia, Mich.
