Lourdes jumped out to a two-goal lead on Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium, but Cornerstone rallied, and scored the match-winner with less than eight minutes to play to defeat the Gray Wolves 3-2 on Homecoming.
The Gray Wolves started quickly as
Isabelle Karamuco (Novi, Mich./Novi H.S.) drilled a free kick from 35 yards out over the wall and into the upper corner of the net for her first tally of the season and fourth goal of her career, putting Lourdes in front just 3:03 into the contest.
Karamuco's day was not done, as she started the Lourdes second goal just over 11 minutes later. She played the ball down the left side to
Jenna Penz (Troy, Mich./Athens H.S.), who fired from the top corner of the box for her first goal of the season to give the Gray Wolves the 2-0 advantage.
Cornerstone (6-7, 2-5 WHAC) cut the lead in half just before intermission, scoring 3:19 to play in the opening half. Kaylee Phillips took a cross inside the goalmouth from the left and found the back of the net to make it 2-1 at the break.
The Golden Eagles tied the match with 20:42 remaining in the contest, as Mya Copado scored an unassisted goal after dribbling down the left side and firing a shot to the far post that deflected in off the post.
With 7:45 to play, Meredith Adams dribbled through the Lourdes defense, passed to the left side, where Kylie Adams fired the match-winner.
Cornerstone finished the match with a 20-4 shot advantage, including a 10-0 edge over the second 45 minutes.
Kiley Transit (Royal Oak, Mich./Royal Oak H.S.) made eight saves in goal for the Gray Wolves while Mikayla Johnson made two stops off the bench for the Golden Eagles.
